you see ship sealing slow up to some land, were some English man start moving off the ship. Now this is where the movement starts to gets exciting. The Indians show movement of defense mode. Leg bent slowly moving around the English as to if you make one wrong move I will attack. In the film theirs a lady by the name of Pocahontas her movements are like a child having fun on a hot summer day. Why I say that she is moving around in the tall fields spending around and around look up at the sky with a big smile on her face as she grabs John smith hand pulling him with her. Another type of movement Pocahontas displays in the film is one of fear. When she decides to throw her body on top of John Smith to save his live because her father order for him to be killed. I call this type of movement passionate movement. I’m not in love with him but I don’t what him to be killed because of liking me.
Let’s move on down the road to a film called Meek’s Cutoff. This film movement I find sad and dry. The movement is of people have no idea where there’re going, how long it’s going to take them to get there, as they are working thought this dry desert land. As they are moving doing the day the sun is hot the movement of sweat down their face is like water running out of a faucet because of the sun is so hot. The ground is so dry that when the wagons are moving as the families are pulling them across the desert this type of movement is sad. For me it was to long with an end of still no water to be found and being led by two man that had no idea where they are going. The part in the film that I did like was the movement of the woman being so strong and especially the pregnant lady.
Now as we keep traveling our next stop is about a film call “Sin Nombre.” This film was Directed Cary Fukunaga. This film movement brings you some excitement if that is what you are into. You have to you two type of movement going on here. Fist we have a gang member by the name of Casper trying to get this other young man to join the gang. As he is trying to convince the young man on the other hand he is also trying to convince a young lady that he is in love with that he is a good guy. I would call his movement in the film better sweet. He wants to be good, but trying to be a bad boy also. He can also be seen as being a movement of a hero the reason I say that. He was trying to move himself out of the gang life when he found out that the love of his life was dead and the lead of the gang was trying to attack another young lady by the name of Sayra on a train they was robbing. Now that young man that Casper was trying to join the gang while he did he went from a young man to a man by getting jump in the gang and received a new name by the name of Smiley. To make a long story short Smiley’s big movement in the film was when he shot and killed Casper. The second type of movement in the film is about a family that is traveling from Guatemala and Mexico trying to get to New Jersey. Their movement takes places by running to catch a train that only comes certain time of the day or weeks. There movement was for a better life, and that life is in New Jersey. Along the way they had to be very careful, because of the border control that would be in certain places along the route the train was taking. Sad to say that Sayra father made the wrong movement when he was trying to run on top of the train when the border control was coming. “Sin Nombre” a film of constant movement either out of fear or freedom.
Next let’s look at a film called “A Better Life.” This film I would say the movement is about doing the right thing while staying out of the spot light.
If you are a person that loves your family and what the best for them, then you will like this films movement. It gives you a different perspective on why some illegal immigrant come to the USA, and trying to do the right thing for a better life. You have this single father by the name of Carlos who is raising his teenage son named Luis. Carlos is illegal, but he’s a hard working man and all ways doing the right thing. Telling Luis to get his education so he can be successful in life and not have to so hard like his father, and one day have a nice home, and live in a better community. Carlos received a proposition to by a truck from this boss, but being the earnest man he had second thought about that. Where will I get the money, I don’t have a driving license, but I need the money to survivor and take care of my son. The bottom line is Carlos bought the truck meet a man and the man stole the truck. The movement in this story is when Luis deicide to go and help his father find the truck it brought them closer together, but also tore them apart. After finding the truck and driving off with it a police officer sitting on the side of the road pull them over. Carlos and Luis knew if they were to stop for the officer his father would definitely be sent to jail and departed back to Mexico that would take him away from his father, after not having his mother in his life. In the end he had an auntie that was there to take care of him. Carlos and Luis remind me about a story in a book called Admired Man Why? You have this young man by the name of Yong. And he comes to America and his parents what the same thing and Luis father want for him. Accounting to Yong he had “Conversations about his father centered on his father’s high expectations of him, particularly with respect to his academic achievements. Additionally,
Yong showed a consistent expression of respect and honor for his father.” Dr. Chris L. Hickey, Sr. Pg. 25.
Now that we have made it tour last film called Vidas Secas. This film shows a Movement of a powerful woman that was to he her husband make deals about his finance, because doing this time woman was unable to go out and make deals. She keeps the family together and the husband on track and she knew with it was time to move from one place to another, although she was getting tired of moving and just what her leather bad that her husband said he would make.
I have talked about all the movement that I saw in the films. Let’s look at the details of how the camera angles, movement are done. First let’s start off with Pan movement this type of movement in a film is showing a side to side are horizontally short. This shot was seen in the film Sin Nombre, were the people was sitting and waiting for the train, you see at less 6-8 trains that is because of a pans movements shot you can see more then what is real there. It was also seen in the film The New World were the ship is in the water, and it looks like water for miles and miles away. Next is the tilt movement this is up and down or vertical movement. This type of seen can be seen in the film Meek’s Cutoff, were Emily and Stephen Meek was talking as she was knitting and Stephen was standing next to her showing a long shot. Also when Emily had the gun in her hand shooting at the Indian. Next week we have tracking shot movement. This type is when the camera is actually following the actors around in the film. This was done in all of the films I talk about early in the paper. Some of the interesting movement was in Sin Nomber, when Sayra was in the water trying to get across to the other side for her freedom, another one in this film was when her father and brother was running on top of the train and the father fell of the train. Interesting movement happen in the film A Better Life was when Carlos and Luis stole the truck and drove it through the gate. As for the film The New World when all the Indians was moving around the English so fast, and how it was able to capture Pocahontas as she was running around in the field. Meek’s Cutoff interesting movement was when they were going through the water with the wagons and when they had to let the wagons go down the hill. The film Vidas Secas I fine interesting movement was the movement of the cows and horse.
Now that we have took our journey through all the films, we see that movement is not just about political, migration, better jobs, lower taxes and health care. We have seen some of the names used in the film world and what it takes to make a good, bad, short, or long film, and how holding the camera a certain way can make a different in the action of the film. Of all the film we have talk about the best one for me was the film A Better Life. It was touching, moving heart felt, and closed to home for a lot of people that come from a signal parent home. Although the film took a different turn and had a single father playing role vs. a single mother some that we all ways see. The things that I would have change in the film or would have like to see. Since Carlos was trying to be so honest and hardworking I would have made were Carlos could have received his paper to say in the USA, so he could see his son doing good. As for Meek’s Cutoff I believe this film should have made were the Indian led them to some water and shelter. When it comes to The New World this film was very long and not something I would watch again or recommend it to anyone unless they are interested in western type of films. The same for Vidas Secas, it was sad that they had to kill the dog, and why did they have to have that annoying noise for so long in this film, and I would have to see have seen that leather bed. For the film Sin Nombre it was good and bad. I like that Casper was trying to both ladies from the dangerous life that he was living, but for some reason they just wanted to keep following him and it cause the love of his life to loss her life following after him, and the other young lady so him get killed.
Finial, I have to say that all the film has a different types of movement maybe it a love movement, someone having a hard time moving, how about the movement for peace, are just not able to fine what you are looking for. All of this movement was seen in all of the film. But the best type of movement is how the camera direct the different type of movement from make a scene looks like it’s closer than what it really is are taller than what it really appears and wider than it seems. Analyze movement and interesting.
