I chose to do my theme around The Welcome Table by Alice Walker. Theme is not the plot of the story but it is associated with the idea that lies behind the story. (Clugston 2010).
The theme in The Welcome Table is about an old lady who only wanted to worship, before she makes that journey home to be with her lord But she experiences prejudice along the way she went into a church that was for whites only and was met with discrimination for having the nerve to enter into their church.
. The theme also shows the disrespect and arrogance that they have for this old black lady.
The white people in this church showed no compassion to the old black lady because she was black and had trespassed on what they consider was for whites only.
