In this society, one gains power from an education. Education in The Testing seems to largely revolve around 3 basic subjects: mathematics, history, and reading skills. I know this because these are the three written tests in the first round of the Testing. But what if your skill, your talent, your passion is not one of these three things? You will not have very much power. If you are amazing with people, your a natural speaker and leader, a talent that would prove very useful as a politician along with many other important jobs, but maybe you’re not the strongest in school, you won’t get a high position job. All that matters is education, nothing else. Perhaps you’re an amazing singer and that is your passion. You will never have the chance to make it big like you can in this day and age, there is nothing to pursue except education. This is an example of lack of equal opportunity, some people can gain power a lot easier than others. Equal opportunity is something that I strongly value because I care about things being equal and fair. If both someone else and I want something the same amount, we should both have the same possibilities and options, similar if not the same choices to make. No one should have an advantage from the start, something you can’t control.
