analyzing readings. Isolating the writer’s arguments without intervening proved to be very difficult. After coming to the realization that the first paper was a descriptive essay of the writer’s arguments. As opposed to an argumentative essay where I interpreted the arguments and mischaracterized the author’s intent. The revision memo assured there was supporting evidence and helped with grammatical errors. Interpreting Martin Luther King’s, I Have a Dream Speech, arguments in unit two was simple. Following unit one’s methodology of isolation, viewing the speech objectively helped analyze the argumentative structure of the essay. The first portion of the class has prepared me for other styles of writing, because they have outlined the structure for different methods of writing. Due to the difference of articles and the way the unit four was structured it forced the class to write two papers, one in support of the argument and the other in opposition.
This was the hardest challenge, following the stream of consciousness thinking created a dilemma. Starting on the first paper of technology and its improvement in educational capabilities created a one sided bias. The most useful tool I learned in this course was using evidence to support my claims. The structure of my essays in unit four were based off having paragraph summarization of arguments presented in the essay, and formulating these ideas into one coherent paper. Furthermore, research and the use of evidence is a major improvement to the process acquired from the course. The course helped with gathering useful evidence in a manner never taught in high school classes. This new method of research and analysis has ultimately improved the form of writing because it helps gather useful information and critical evidence for all types of arguments. As expressed before evidence is the most important part of any argument because it is the tools of success of any
argument. Writing hasn't been my strong suit, but the course has helped improve my writing. The format of the units has helped develop the structure of my ideas and ultimately my writing. The form of structures placed on my papers was to give each one of the points their own paragraph. The problem with this method was the organization of the paper wasn’t coherent with that of whichever topic or argument analyzed. The structure of the writing has shifted to coincide with the topics analyzed to ultimately improve the delivery of each analysis. Through the use of the feedback from the professor, the revision memos have helped improve the structure and style of writing of my papers as a whole. For instance, the most common feedback given through the revision memos dealt with the papers thesis statements, they lacked detail, evidence and contextualization. The thesis is the base of the paper because it declares the paper's stance and major points. Consequently, the importance of the feedback was that it helped sophisticate to the ideas and points meant to be expressed in the unit paper. In conclusion, continuing to isolate the writer's argument and analyzing the consequences it has will ultimately help my writing improve more than it already has. Developing a structure that follows to the evidence utilized will heighten the effectiveness of the argument. Following the steps i’ve learing in the course to break down and create an argument will ultimately make me a better writer and an effective rhetor.
