France, during the 18th century was a society of monarchy. There were strains between classes, democracy and individual liberties. When the king requested the 3rd Estate general to resolve the nations debt, instead of resolving it he saw the class struggles. The lower class or the Third Estate did not accept the fact that they were the unimportant majority of the population and their voices weren’t heard. Unlike the 1st and 2nd estate (which consisted of the clergy and nobles) had a voice. After the 3rd Estate refused the king’s terms led to the tennis court oath and formation of the national assembly. The actions of the 3rd Estate sparked the start of the French Revolutions. Throughout the revolutions several opposing groups emerged, the royalists, revolutionists, Jacobins etc. A major group was the Royalists; they were the people who wanted power returned to the royal family, mainly the nobles, catholic clergymen and the royal family supported this. Originally many of the nobles including the monarchs attempted to move over seas to close countries, such as Austria, they were not successful. The revolutionists were the revolutionary men and women from the lower class who wanted their voices to be heard in the government. Lasting over a decade
