Curatorial Statement Claude Oscar Monet was pioneer in the art scene of the 20th century. He invented the painting style impressionism and always followed his dreams. This exhibit is a short impression of his pieces and his passion for art, his wife and the nature.
Biography
Claude Oscar Monet was born 1840 on Saturday the 14th of November in Paris, France, and lived until 1926. His parents had beside him one other child. When he was 5 years old the family moved to Le Havre in the Normandy. Louise-Justine Aubrée Monet, Claude´s mother, was a singer and she was one of the reasons why he wanted to become an artist too. The discussion came up, because one of the paintings went on a show and the other one not. But “There is no documentary proof of which version went on show, but recently the candidature of the Moscow picture has been generally favoured.” (Kennedy, 2007, para. 1). He pointed out that there are two existing sources from 1874, which are in favor of the Moscow picture. The first one analyzed the painting style of Claude Monet in positive way: “this extraordinary, marvellous sketch” (para. 3). But he also pointed out that it is for the author only a sketch and not a finished piece of art: “Obviously, this is not the last word in art, nor even of this art. It is necessary to go on and to transform the sketch into a finished work.” (para. 3). The second contemporary source was more sarcastic in his review: “Unfortunately, I was imprudent enough to leave him too long in front of the Boulevard des Capucines…” (para. 5). The first is ‘The Woman in the Green Dress’ painted in 1886 it shows Monet’s wife. The painting ‘Impressionism, Sunrise’ from 1872 was the first piece of art of the style impressionism. The third artwork ‘Poppies Blooming’ painted in 1873 shows a landscape with flowers and Monet’s own house in the background. ‘The Lunch’ (1973) captures a moment in Monet’s garden with his wife and son in it. The fifth painting is ‘Bordighera’ from 1884 and shows the Italian Riviera which Monet painting during his travels.
