Is a woman’s place in the military and how has women joining the military affected the armed services? This is a subject that is very personal for me as my mother served in the Army and I have plans of joining the Army also. I feel that a woman’s place is right beside a man in the military. I know that many people feel women should be at home keeping the “home fires” burning but I think that women should have the same rights as men. Many people still believe that women should not serve in the military and if they do they should not serve in combat active roles but only be allowed in support units. As we continue to fight the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, we see that women are seeing more and more combat. Women have severed in combat since time began. The military is still very much a male dominated but women have made great strides in the last 30 years in the military. As of 2016, women can now serve in combat roles as before they could only be in support units. Many people have mixed feelings about this but I think that if a woman raised her hand and swore to protect this country then she should be allowed to serve in any capacity she wants. If a woman can do the training, then she should be allowed to pick her job and serve in that job with the same benefits and respect as men.
