Many people still believe that women should not serve in the military and if they do they should not serve in combat active roles but only be allowed in support units. As we continue to fight the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, we see that women are seeing more and more combat. Women have severed in combat since time began. As long as a “man” has been waring and conquering, women have been in combat and shaped the outcome of wars and changed the shape of nations and the military. One great example of this is the prophet Deborah of Israel, who sent ten thousand men into battle and won a very import battle for the Israelites. “Certainly I will go with you,” said Deborah. “But because of the course you are taking, the honor will not be yours, for the Lord will deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman.” So Deborah went with Barak to Kedesh. The military is still very much a male dominated but women have made great strides in the last 30 years in the military. As of 2016, women can now serve in combat roles as before they could only be in support units. Many people have mixed feelings about this but I think that if a woman raised her hand and swore to protect this country then she should be allowed to serve in any capacity she wants. If a woman can do the training, then she should be allowed to pick her job and serve in that job with the same benefits and respect as men.
