Theseus Hero
Greek Mythology are stories that include deities, demigods, monsters, and heroes. Greek gods and goddesses were very similar to humans but had special powers and strengths. The stories have been passed down from ancient times and have become popular in European culture. Many myths consisted of heroes who possessed almost perfect qualities that allowed them to perform tasks an average human would not be able to perform(Myths and Legends of the World). An example of a remarkable hero was Theseus, the King of Athens. Although Theseus is best known for killing the man-eating Minotaur of Crete, he is also known for influencing a moral lesson on today's society and his acts of heroism during his glorious adventures.

Before leaving Troezen, Aegeus placed his sword and sandles under a large boulder. Theseus was told to bring the sword and sandles to Athens once he can lift the giant rock. Theseus soon became a strong young man.Theseus began his adventures at the age of 16 when he lifted the boulder and set of to Athens(Myths and Legends of the World). When Theseus arrived to Athens, Medea attempted to poison him. Aegeus recognized the sandles he was wearing and saved him from Medea. After Medea left the was givien the Athenian Throne. Theseus married one of the Amazon women who was either Hippolyta or Antiope which were sisters. Hippolta was an Amazon Queen and a labor of Hercules and Antiope was not very well known.(The Colombia Electronic Encyclopedia)Theseus had a large wedding and festival arranged for the marriage of him and Hippolta. Theseus favored Hippolta over Antiope due to her fame and money. Theseus and Hippolta were very different from other couples at their wedding because they were more whimsical than serious.
