Management Education and Development Strategies in Bangladesh: Including the Results of a Survey in 1987-1988 of Higher Level Management Education and Training as a Means of Promoting Socio-Economic and Industrial Development in the Nation

This thesis is concerned with both understanding and seeking to improve managerial and entrepreneurial skills in present day Bangladesh. National education and training at the peoples level requires not only extending literacy and primary education, but also the development of vocation oriented skills and abilities. At the higher levels, the role of education also include the development of leadership, managerial and entrepreneurial capabilities and skills. Since the examples of managerial leaders as modernizing role models are critical in shaping peoples environment of work and progress, this thesis has especially examined the present day basis of management education and training in Bangladesh in both its particular and general aspects.
On a survey conducted in 1987 - 88, the study considered managers (MBA degree holders and non MBAs) in the middle and higher ranks of major public and private sector organizations in Bangladesh. The survey evaluated among other issues, the degree of usefulness of graduate education in fulfilling occupational orientations, degree of change or development orientations, degree of applicability of various learned managerial and technical skills, inhibiting factors in the applications of learned skills & techniques. The study also provided an opportunity to compare cultural dimensions among Bangladeshi, Korean and Japanese managers from similar survey data.
The findings indicated that MBA type management education and training are considered to be relevant and useful in a job by the managers with MBA degrees. Among the useful and
