CHAPTER 1: THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction:
The purpose of the research is to assess the quality and affordability of foods sold at the Intramuros wall. In order to determine the quality of food the researchers use following indicators which are Temperature, Nutritional value, Sanitation of foods, Palatability and appearance. The researchers will identify the affordability of foods sold at the Intramuros Walls by knowing the budget of the respondents per day.
Food is any substance consumed to provide nutritional support for the body. It is usually of plant or animal origin, and contains essential nutrients, such as fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals. The substance is ingested by an organism and assimilated by the organism’s cells to provide energy, maintain life, or stimulate growth. In our modern society we are accustomed to anytime, anywhere and often. We stuff or bodies, often unaware of the fact that food profoundly influences our emotional and physical well-being in the short term and the long term. An individual’s food choices depend on energy needs, nutrient needs and enjoyment. Family, friends and personal beliefs, including cultural and environmental considerations, also play a major role in people’s food selection. At the end of this research, the researchers will find out whether eating in the Intramuros Walls will provide them quality of food with the right price, without any anomalies regarding the safety of the students who consumes their food.

Background of the Study First of all, it is a fortress city used to be surrounded by a moat now transformed into a putting green, and it is where the old Spanish Fort Santiago was headquartered. The fort, converted into a museum, a very historical piece of landmark where almost all the who 's who of Philippine colonial resistance - Spanish, American, & Japanese were incarcerated. It used to house a dozen or so churches and congregation mother houses that during clear skies, the skyline
