Dedications
I dedicate this guide to those who’ve — in some way— helped me in this process. Jyotsna and Rajiv Mehra You have been the most supportive parents for anything I have done. You have always stood by me. Ms. Angelika Küster You’ve been a magnificent Advisor, and your ideas, contributions and help have been extremely helpful. Thank you for everything, without you, this wouldn’t have been possible. Mr. Brian Chenault and Ms. Tanya Nizam From even before I began MUN, you both encouraged me to join ISA’s MUN club. Your advice has always been fruitful and refreshing. Ms. Frances Laughlin Every time we met and I showed you my progress, you’ve always been motivating, encouraging and provided me with helpful solutions to the problems I came across. Thank you for all of your help along the way. Ms. Linda Dubock It was wonderful to get your advice and opinion of my guide at THIMUN 2010. Thank you for your ideas, which have helped me to further develop this guide. Ms. Donna Saxby and Ms. Nathalie Morrissey From ordering books, to citing sources, to even keeping the Library open until late, I couldn’t have done this without both of your continual cooperation, support and help. Mr. Alessandro Guglielmi Your continual help and always being “online” whenever I needed you assisted me throughout the whole way. Our conversations, your opinions and ideas never ceased to amaze and be insightful. Thank you for all your guidance throughout this process as a continual support for this guide. Ms. Vivian Wu As my first conference chair, you have been the most supportive, helpful and encouraging

Australia’s first contribution to its role in the UN came from Australian political figure Dr H.V. Evatt. In retrospect, Evatt was unquestionably a profound high ranking official in the UN, where he contributed substantially through s serving as the first President of the General Assembly in 1948 to 1949 as one example. Essentially, this was a key milestone in enforcing Australia’s responsibility to take on its post-war role in being actively committed to maintaining world peace and security. Therefore it is noteworthy that Dr Evatt can be viewed as Australia’s “benefactor” in initiating its post-war role in the UN today.…

Another important part of the UN is the General Assembly’s subsidiary body the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). The UN under the guise of being peacekeepers, have used their position to drive chaos and fear; ergo, the UN is a criminal organization (e.g., human trafficking, corruption, terror). UN peacekeepers are essentially free to get away with terrible crimes because they know this jurisdictional gap provides them with impunity. I am of the opinion, that it would behoove the United States to defund specific UN departments and organizations; ergo, the UN needs to quit treating D.C. as a sugar daddy. They have outlived their once useful purpose and now resort to an entrenched, complicit role with corruption and terror. The UN argues that they are all we have and if this is the case, then it is time to employ changes. It is time to awaken from our…

The United Nations is an international organization that fights for world peace, and strives to control international law, international security, economic development, social progress, and human rights. In the United Nation’s preamble, it states the organization is “determined to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war…” and “…to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom.” However, the U.N. can often be ineffective and it has been an ongoing debate between the world’s leaders whether or not intervention is justified when inhumane acts are committed in foreign lands. Too many human beings have been victims of violence, rape and/or other crimes on the U.N.’s watch all because the organization is not authorized to forcefully intervene in another country. The United Nations Security Council is responsible for preserving peace between nations and even within nations, and when a nation is committing atrocious acts against its citizens, the U.N. and other nations should have the right to intervene militarily to end those abuses.…

A number of people have assisted me throughout the journey of completing this research, and deserve my thanks. To my supervisor, mentor and friend Professor Barry Fallon, to whom I owe a great debt. His support has been unwavering, and his encouragement and generosity have been constant. Because of him I have learned an immeasurable amount about the research process, and about my own strengths. For all of this Barry, a heartfelt thank you. A big thank you to my family, who have walked this road with me. Their love and support are unconditional, and they have gone above and beyond the call of duty many a time in efforts to help. Thank you for cheering me on and encouraging me from the sidelines at every step, it has meant the world to me. A special thank you to my grandmother for her love and support – one of your last wishes was to see me complete this process. You may no longer be here in person, but I did it, and I know you are smiling. To all my wonderful friends, thank you for your friendship, and for always being there. While they have all played an integral part in my life, and have supported me on this journey, there are some special mentions. A special thanks to Carli Growcott, for her constant friendship, support and encouragement. Carli, you have been there at every turn, and have supported me when I have most needed it - thank you. Being a delegate representing a country or a diplomat in UN stimulations has provided me with the opportunity to contribute to resolve global issues. Which is why I have learned that everybody should get what they need and not just what they want.. My participation in numerous Model UNs, both national and international, has helped me forge connections and friendships with people comingfrom different socio-cultural backgrounds. Listening to other people’s ideas and perspectives has allowed me to become broad-minded and more understanding of contentious issues that affect the world…

I have been involved in Model United Nations since high school, and it had been such an educational and engaging experience when I look back as a college undergraduate. In Model United Nations conferences, no matter I was a delegate — writing position papers and draft resolutions, or a dais member — composing background guides, I had been always receiving something that was unable to earn in a traditional classroom setting.…
