The main information that I gained was about the different traditional roles that a social worker plays in this stage. The one role that I was able to observe at my placement was the broker. This is where the social worker helps the clients connect with outside resources (Birkenmaier & Weger, 2017). I got to observe a social worker helping inmates find outside resources, such as treatment facilities or employment agencies, for when they got released from jail. The one role that I learned about in class was the mediator. I learned that the role of a mediator is be the outsider looking in on the issue to help our clients see the situation from another perspective (Birkenmaier & Weger, 2017). The role play that we did in class helped me understand how the role of a mediator is an important part of the intervention process. The one thing that I learned from the textbook about the intervention process is the different intervention processes, like the solution-focused process. Through reading the definition, the example given in the textbook, helped for when we went over examples in the class room.
