Third Supervisor Meeting Reflection
My third supervisor meeting took place on Friday, January 30. By this time I had decided that I could not have an actual recycling program in place, but that I should create a plan for such a system. At my meeting, Mrs. Wilkinson and I discussed finding additional sources of information for my project, the skills I used throughout the course of my project, and what my product and presentation were going to look like. Mrs. Wilkinson suggested that I have more face-to-face communication with others, instead of my usual emailing or calling on the phone. I had initially communicated through these methods because I felt more comfortable using them. I could more directly ask what information I wanted to know, and it was easier for me to articulate …show more content…
I found out that these companies would be willing to donate recycling bins, but they should be requested in a letter to the store manager with an official school letterhead specifically stating the needs of the program. I also received some good suggestions for placement of recycling bins, such as outside of the gymnasiums. With all of this information, I created my product. I have changed the goal and criteria of my project, but my product (which is a plan for the recycling system) would achieve the same goals if it were implemented. If I had properly estimated the amount of time I would take to complete each step, I would have foreseen that my original intent for my product should have been a plan. My product does not quite meet my product specifications, but I feel that my current product fulfills my original intent for my project even more than my planned results. In the beginning of my Personal Project, I was unsure about the goals of my project, so I was not able to specify exactly what I wanted from my project. However, my plan for the recycling program was planned with my project criteria in mind. I did not get to implement the actual program because of time constraints, but I did think of ways that …show more content…
I did interview an environmental engineer as well as others with experience with recycling programs, such as Mrs. Kennedy and the employees at Lowe’s and The Home Depot. However, I did not interview an economist. This would have been helpful to researching for my project. I did meet some of my criteria for the success of my project, since I wrote several announcements about the importance of recycling and the robotics team, and promotion of the importance of recycling was one of my criteria. Three IB Learner Profile Attributes I exhibited (or improved upon) while working on my project were Communicator, Reflective, and Thinker. This project has made me develop my communication skills. I often find it difficult to talk to others, especially if I do not know them. However, because I had the purpose of research, I was required to communicate. I now find it somewhat easier to communicate with others. I was a Thinker because I had to make decisions on how my product would apply to my Statement of Inquiry, and think of a way I could apply recycling to helping the robotics team. I was also Reflective because I reflected on many of my actions I took while working on my project. In the case of my

Additional concepts I have been asked to consider in this assignment include Reflective- Practitioner and Practitioner-Scholar. Based on my own experience would define reflecting as having the ability, at regular intervals, to look back at the work I have done, and the work process, and consider how I can improve. Reflective Practitioner is defined by Author Christopher Johns as someone who lives reflection as a way of being (Johns, 2009).…

Reflecting on own work activity helps a person to identify their weakness and strengths. Reflection helps a person on how to approach their work. For example working in an Dementia unit, a carer is assisting a resident with personal care, the resident becomes aggressive and resistive, the carer feels scared that he or she might ended up getting hurt or the resident gets hurt in situation. So when reflecting on the work activity the carer will think about his or her approach when getting the resident ready for personal care, whether it was positive or negative. On reflection the carer will look for different ways to assist in personal care that will not get the resident…

Reflective practice is something we all carry out every single day, probably without even realising it. We use reflection in many different situations and under many different circumstances, as a way of improving our own skills and abilities for different things, as individuals. Cowan proposed that learners are reflecting in an educational way, “When they analyse or evaluate one or more personal experiences, and attempt to generalise from that thinking” (1999: 18). Reflective practice allows us to look at something we have carried out and allows us to see whether or not we handled the situation properly or whether we would handle it differently if we were giving the opportunity to do it again. By doing this reflecting enables you to see how you have improved in certain areas and pinpoint areas which may need some improvement. It’s basically a way of seeing what you have learnt and perhaps shedding light on what could be done in the future. Moon’s theory runs parallel to this as he says that reflective practice is “a set of abilities and skills, to indicate the taking of a critical stance, an orientation to problem solving or state of mind” (1999:63). Suggesting that reflective practice is directly linked with the thinking you do surrounding something you…

In the beginning no one had an idea on which side we were going to be in the debate on the topic, which I got was Stem Cell Research and after researching both sides and learning the pro and cons about Stem Cell Research. My group was given the pro side, which means that I was supporting doing more research on stem cells and learning how they work. I was actually really excited because when we were researching both sides, I was agreeing more with the pro side. This project showed me that it does not matter, if I never heard about the topic, I just need to research. The more I did research on stem cells the more I would understand my topic and the project. This was the first time I had a project where I have learn the material on my own and have a real debate in front of the whole class. I feel that this taught me that I have the potential to learn materials on my own. This project made me learn skills for success because in college the professors do not babysit you or make sure you do your work. The professors have so many students that they don’t make sure that every student understands the…

By completing my Senior Project, I developed so much personal satisfaction from this experience. I feel much more confident when presenting in front of an audience. I have found myself able to share information without having to read from a stack of notecards. Being able to do this was quite a “stretch” for me as I often become nervous in front of a group of people. This project taught me that sharing something I really believe in will help me become a very good…

There are many different models of reflection available but for the purpose of this assignment I shall be using Gibbs (1988). It also analyses the feelings felt at the time and includes an evaluation of the event and tries to make sense of it. Finally Gibbs examines what you would do if the situation arose again.…
