Reflective Essay: My Senior Project
I had never really discussed the Senior Project with any of the 2016 seniors, so I really did not know what awaited me. It only took a short period of time to open my eyes to the tremendous task facing me and my fellow classmates. When I started writing my research paper, the information I began collecting on becoming a high school history teacher seemed very familiar. Since both my grandparents taught school for thirty-two years, I have listened all my life to their stories about earning their teaching degrees, as well as the joys and woes of their years of teaching. Writing the research paper was my least favorite part of my Senior Project, but I know it was beneficial to me. I learned valuable information about the steps I must follow …show more content…
After doing this two or three times, I realized I would never get it finished if i continued wasting time in this manner. I started paying closer attention to detail and soon found myself on a faster track to completion. I learned a lot about myself while doing this project. The greatest thing I learned was that I have chosen the perfect occupation. I love history and I believe my passion for history will help me instill a love for history within my students also. Getting to share part of my Native American Unit with one of Mr. Davis’ class, has given me so much more confidence in myself. By completing my Senior Project, I developed so much personal satisfaction from this experience. I feel much more confident when presenting in front of an audience. I have found myself able to share information without having to read from a stack of notecards. Being able to do this was quite a “stretch” for me as I often become nervous in front of a group of people. This project taught me that sharing something I really believe in will help me become a very good

1st of all I think Ty Dooley did a great job speaking at the panel and really made look at things from a totally different prospective. Something that I’ve taken away from him during the event is even after we leave this diverse university environment it is up to each and every single one of us to keep the conversations going and regardless of the good and bad going on around us we should never forget about our heritage and background regardless of where that might possible be. Something else that he made me think is that if we choose to forget about history then it would surely repeat itself. I personally will take his advice by not being scared to speak up about certain issues within the university and even a larger community, I also learned…

Overall, this experience was very rewarding because we created nothing into something and as a result our project helped families who generally have lower incomes have the necessary school supplies for their children to be successful in school without forcing them to give up something else up. This project has opened my eyes to things happening around me and allowed me to become a more active and engaged community member while I was able to delve deeper into something that I'm interested and passionate…

Throughout my entire life, I have been the outcast that loves history. I remember my peers being flourished by science, math, and art; subjects that didn’t interest me. I found a love for history in 3rd grade, when my teacher would speak passionately about the impact of Dr. King Jr. and the hardships of the Great Depression. My fascination towards history ultimately led me to my interest in government.…

Before this year I was always dead set on being a high school history teacher and thought that I never wanted to teach anything else. During the fall semester I was placed in a sixth grade class for my observation hours and at first I was kind of upset about it. Once I experience a middle school classroom I was still on the fence about what grades I wanted to teach, but I figured I would take this course anyway. I am so happy I did because I decided I want to do my student teaching in middle school. I have realized this is such a unique time in children’s lives and I want more of the molding aspect rather than solely teaching like at the high school level. I want to not only educate students in history, but also have it relate to their every…

Being a big sister I have always been introduced into the basics of how to take care a children. For my senior project I chose the self-development option where I took a class at WITC on “Intro to Child Care.” The class had a Pass/Fail grading system. I decided to take the class as my senior project to expand my prior knowledge on childcare. Also I took the class to determine if I want to pursue a career in childcare so I would know what colleges to go to and what programs I would need to pursue. The initial goals I had before starting the class were to complete the class, to expand my knowledge and to decide whether or not to pursue childcare as a career.…

I never thought I’d be able to experience a college level course in high school and pass it with an above average grade, more than a “C”. It wasn’t easy though, the journey I’ve made from semester to semester has been a slow one and required more than half my effort and time. I’ve definitely grown not only as a writer but as a student overall through completion of several term papers and activities. As I reflect on this school year, I am thankful for enrolling and for the experience SUPA History has given me. The materials and objectives of SUPA History has given me the confidence to feel capable of meeting college standards upon my arrival to a university.…

July 1993, Lexington, Kentucky. A woman gives birth to a beautiful baby girl with seven holes in her heart; thus began 19 years of visits to an esteemed cardiologist. Extremely worried, her parents inquired regarding their daughter's future, alleviating their worries, the doctor's advice to them was to be diligent and "treat her as you would a normal child." Knowing I have been different did not stop me from participating fully in life, especially during my childhood. In December 2012, we received the wonderful news that the final hole had closed. The odds were in my favor since I have been lucky to have never needed surgery, nor required hospital care from a critical injury. I believe that there is a reason I exist on this earth; and my blueprint…

As nervous as I was when I walked into Saint Joseph Catholic School (K-8) for my first day of kindergarten, I never thought I would be able to leave after 6th grade and enter the world of middle school. In a small school of about 400 kids, I was familiar with every face that passed by me in the hallway. I got to know the kids in my grade so well and we all knew each other’s life stories. By the time I was in 6th grade at Saint Joseph, some of my friends were planning on going to Kinard middle school in 7th grade. At this point in my life, I was not completely content with where I was going to school. The realization came to me that it was time to move on. It was time for me to try something new.…
