Reflecting on own work activity helps a person to identify their weakness and strengths. Reflection helps a person on how to approach their work. For example working in an Dementia unit, a carer is assisting a resident with personal care, the resident becomes aggressive and resistive, the carer feels scared that he or she might ended up getting hurt or the resident gets hurt in situation. So when reflecting on the work activity the carer will think about his or her approach when getting the resident ready for personal care, whether it was positive or negative. On reflection the carer will look for different ways to assist in personal care that will not get the resident to be agitated. That is by reflecting on her or his approach, his or her communication skills and identifying ways she can improve and if he or she needs father training. By doing this carer might change his or her approach to a positive one, improve his or her communication skills and understand why the resident becomes aggressive during personal care. Furthermore the carer will realize that further training is required to be able to perform their work without any harm to either party.
