Three Main Issues Within Children's Ministry Case Study
1. Question: What is the hardest doctrinal thing to teach children?
Answer: Ones salvation doesn’t come from good works alone. Kids think automatically that if they do something wrong that they wont go to heaven, because God wont love them. Like wise if they do something good they think that this will get them into heaven. We have to teach them that God wants them to imitate him and be nice and kind to everyone, but if they do something wrong he wont kick them out of his kingdom, instead he will forgive him.
My Reflection: I found this to be very insightful. For me this concept was drilled into my head at a young age, but even then I didn’t fully come to understand what it truly meant until I was in conformation class and read the catechism

Question: What is three main issues within children’s ministry?
Answer:
A. Hard to get parents involved and be willing to be the primary faith helper/ role model. We as church workers can help them and provide resources and support but they ultimately spend the most time and are the biggest influences on their children. We only get them for roughly 5 hours a week, they get them for all the rest.
B. After Sunday school, Vbs, camps, youth groups the information goes home and isn’t supported or is contradicted. We need to and the parents need to hold themselves accountable and help continue the conversations at home.
C. Behavioral issues- in school a teacher can ding their grade, send them to the principles office or detention, but what are we suppose to do in a church? We still need to act as Christian remodels. We need to promote and motivate better behavior but also motivate church.
Reflection: As a church worker I think to solve these issues I would try to make sure that the parents were rotating in and volunteering in the childrens ministry. This could be by becoming Sunday school teachers, leading worship, reading the sermons, helping with crafts. I would also have to train them in how to do so and equip them with the right resources and knowledge. I would also try to incorporate questions sheets in which the parents could take and have them ask the students in the car or at home, so that the faith discussion is not only in the church but also outside as

Question: What are some good resources for families to use and new church workers to have available?
Answer:
A. Curriculum- group publishing
B. Phase cards (age and stages of life) – “orange”
C. “Dig-in”- all online- build your own lesson Reflection: I thought the phase cards were a great resource to have available for parents. Each card has a set of behavior, physical, emotional, social, and faith traits these children will have at this age. This allows the parent to fully understand how and when the child should be developing in these traits and if they are falling short of any. Personally I would try as the church to send these out to the children on their birthdays or give a set to new parents. It shows that the church supports them in their discussions and wants what is best for the children.
The online website “Dig-in” was also a great resource to use it gives you templates to use and new ideas for lessons planning. You can also type in a bible story or key word and it will provide crafts, music, videos, questions, etc. on those topics to use.

4. Question: Besides being a DCE for your church, what other roles did you take on?
Answer:
A. Teaching in schools- student council, leadership groups/clubs, religion

How I ensure that families are kept aware of what’s happening in their child’s daily/ or weekly life in my program is by having room displays such as photos and posters of the children interacting with each other and bulletin boards of their artwork all around my center. I would also post pictures of the children dancing and laughing around my class to show the parents the fun things we do. I would also post pictures of them working to show the children’s parents that my children are getting educated and that my children are learning. I am also able to provide the families with my weekly agenda of what the children and I will be working on. I can also exchange emails with the families to communicate via email, if they have any questions we can also exchange numbers. I can also provide daily reports of the child’s daily progress. I can also include and struggle the child has had during the day.…

As a teacher of young children I am aware of the need to involve parents in child’s educational and developmental process. Each parent is an expert and a valuable partner when it comes to identifying and meeting their child’s needs. As I reflect on my teaching practices, I make sure tha I provide a variety of opportunities for parents as well as family members to participate in activities and experiences planned for their child. By valuing parents’ involvement in the total education of their children, it shows my competence in meeting Standard IV.…

Since taking the Bible and prayer out of Schools, there have been five negative developments in the nation’s public schools: Academic achievement has plummeted, including SAT scores, increased rate of out-of-wedlock births, an increase in illegal drug use, increase in juvenile crime and deterioration of school behavior. Without someone teaching our youth in schools about God, the Bible and Jesus, where are the youth of America going to learn?…

The role of the church is to be present. It requires the church to take an active and immediate response to crisis. According to Straub (n.d) the church must establish support and peer accountability. In order to truly assist those in need, the church must be equipped with individual from a diverse background, so they are able to relate and understand an individual how is living a similar situation to their past. Straub (n.d) gave the example of veterans. If an individual who has suffered a major trauma seeks for help they may feel like the counselor is unable to understand or related to their struggles. It is very important that the church is diverse enough that they are able to speak the language of those in need.…

To promote involvement and positive relationships with families and communities I believe that an open door policy is essential to have. I would do this by talking with the parents every day at drop off and pick up time. During the morning drop off time I would be able to find out how the previous afternoon went, if I wasn't there to see it myself, and how the child slept the previous night. I could also find out whether or not the child ate breakfast. During afternoon pick up time I would be able to tell the parent how the child's day went. I would also keep daily sheets for each child that would include bathroom breaks, what and how much the child ate throughout the day, as well as any concerns or questions I might have about the child. Another way I would keep the open door policy is by sending home a weekly newsletter informing the parents of what would be going on that week in the classroom. I would encourage parents to call the center or stop by to see how things are going for the child. I know that when parents are working they, often times, wonder about the child's day. By calling or stopping by they are able to peek in on the child and get updates are how the day is going. I would also encourage parents to attend any special event that the child is apart of, such as Christmas programs. The parents would, also, be more than welcome to have lunch with the child on his or her birthday if they are available to do so. I believe that, as a teacher, it is important to be the support system for the child while he or she is at school and while the parents are away at work. If the parents are working on something, such as using manners or potty training, I would be more than willing to help them by reinforcing that task while the child is at school. It is very important for both the child and the parents to have consistency in their daily routine. I believe that by…

Our values as a church are that we are bold, inclusive, and relevant with our mission statement being “To create Jesus loving, inclusive communities that ignite the city.” This child’s family has been attending our church for the past two years, so this is a message he has heard over and over every single Sunday at the beginning of church. Over the summer in Kids Church we also had the children work through the mission statement word by word to see what that meant, and how we live it all out in church. In addition, his parents are very welcoming and justice oriented. They want to make our society a place where no one is disenfranchised and want to raise their children with this…

To establish positive and productive relationships with families I believe it’s very important to keep communication open. Families have the right to know: the program goals; philosophy; expectations for children, families, and staff operating assumptions and practices that will accomplish the goals’ and how resources are allocated to achieve goals. There are several ways I will communicate with the families about these things and what might be going on with their child. Some vehicles of information I may use might include notes, journals, conferences, documentation panels, displayed planning forms and objectives, web pages, and meetings. I will also talk with…

I believe the best way of doing this is through catechism. I also believe that having the Sunday Schools catechize all members together in Sunday school that as a church we would have doctrinal unity, a deeper understanding of God and our relationship to him, and as a church we would become a more effective tool for God in our community. Most of the Sunday schools aim at providing the common masses with an opportunity to study the Bible. The Sunday school education often included a comprehensive study of the Bible. It intends to imbibe in the minds of the people, the principles and philosophies stated in the Bible. One of the primary purposes of the Sunday school is to teach the Bible to the…

In the context of my Country, Russia, I choose three issues which mostly need response in the churches. These issues are Premarital Counseling, Marriage Counseling and Crisis care and Counseling. Most of the times we do not feel comfortable to talk about these issues on the church but it do not mean that the problems do not exist. To have a healthy church these issues need to be addressed and pastors need to learn how to approach people because the people are not going to approach pastors first and ask for help.…
