Three Reasons Why Slaves Should Count In The New Constitution

There are three reasons why slaves should count in the new Constitution. First of all, it was stated that they should be counted in votes because they were property. Another statement suggested that much of the population in the south was made up of slaves so it wouldn't make sense not to count their votes. Last of all, it was stated that the north would acquire more representatives if they sided with not counting slaves and would have the power to end slavery. In conclusion, there are three main reason as to why slaves should count. There are three main reasons that slaves should not count in the new Constitution. One reason states that if slaves were counted, the southern states would have more control over the north. Another reason is that
the north complained that the southern states did not treat slaves as people, instead that they were treated as property, therefore their votes should not be counted. Last of all, northern states did not want slaves to vote because they did not have the rights to a basic education and wouldn't know what they are doing. The outcome was called the ⅗ Compromise. This document stated that every 5 slaves would be counted as 3 non slaves. It ended up working in favor for both the southern and the northern states.
