Three Toed Sloth Summary
I believe that the writer will be most concerned about behaviours and characteristics of an animal after reading the first two pages. The reporter talks about his education and how he attended the University of Toronto; a fourth-year thesis is brought to attention as it is a study of a three-toed sloth. The storyteller proceeds into detail about the sloth, mentioning that the sloth gets its name because of the number of toes on the forepaw as all sloths have three toes on the hind paw. Furthermore, the news reporter refers to the sloth’s actions as sluggish, saying that a sloth moves at an average speed of 400 meters an hour in a tree, and 250 meters an hour on the ground, when the sloth is motivated. However, when the sloth is not motivated, …show more content…
The way the sloth behaves is explained in immense detail, portraying to the reader that the way an animal reacts and evades danger will be visible throughout the novel. Also, it is evident that the reporter will examine the behaviour of animals because the first two pages do not connect to or give away the story, thus, it foreshadows the events to come. Pi is the son of a zookeeper so he is aware of how animals react to different situations and how animals, even if they seem cute, can kill a human if they wanted, such as an orangutan. From this, the reader can see that the writer will be most concerned about the way animals behave for the remainder novel. The setting thus far is in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and the timeframe is present day. Though for the first part of the novel, Life of Pi, the story has taken place in Pondicherry, South India, through the back story that Pi tells the writer about his childhood. Pi is telling his story at his house in Scarborough; Pi tells his story of how he arrived in Toronto. The story that Pi is telling takes place in India during Pi’s childhood in the late

Photosynthesis is a process to which some autotrophs such as plants produce their own food. It has two stages or reactions light-dependent and light-dependent reactions. The light dependent reactions are the first stage, where energy from sunlight is captures in Photosystem 2 and then 1, the electrons generated in Photosystem 1 then moves along the electron transport chain. The moving of electrons causes a hydrogen ion gradient that is used in the final step to produce ATP, by the ATP Synthase. The equation for this reaction is 6CO2 + 6H2O  C6H12O6+6O2 or, carbon dioxide +water sugars + oxygen . This reaction takes place on the thylakoid membrane of the chloroplast and uses energy from sunlight to produce compounds like ATP and NADPH. The second stage of photosynthesis is the Calvin Cycle, which takes place in the stoma of the chloroplast. This stage is light-independent or it does not need energy from sunlight. During this reaction ATP and NADPH from Stage 1are used to produce high energy sugars. The reaction is 3CO2 + 6NADPH + 5H2O + 9ATP  G3P + 2H+ + 6NADP+ + 9ADP + 8Pi . Additionally, the three limiting factors of photosynthesis are the light intensity, carbon dioxide concentration, and the temperature. Lastly, the items used in this particular experiment were baking soda to provide CO2, a light to excite the electrons in stage 1, distilled…

There were many types of ground sloths which lived within the past at approximately 1,000kg, 20 foot in length and 12 feet tall they were known to be the size of elephants! They lived within forests and woods but also lived within the Pleistocene (The Great Ice Age) which made it difficult as most of the land and oceans were covered in ice and glaziers. The Giant Ground Sloths lived in these environments as they were herbivores, as of their peg-like teeth. But they also had beneficial adaptations such as their long-curved claws which were perfect for reaching high branches and stripping leaves, as well as protection from predators. The ground sloths evolved to South America around 35 million years ago. It is believed that…

The book Life of Pi by Yann Martel was published in 2001. The story is primarily about an Indian boy named Piscine Molitor Patel, who survives a shipwreck with a Bengal tiger. Unfortunately, this book is not a part of a series; the characters in the book do however, have an interesting relationship with the author. Yann Martel is from Canada, as stated in the book. The Patel family was moving to Canada, this is also the place Piscine “lives” currently. Martel got the inspiration from his story in Pondicherry, the originally home of the Patel family. Although the meeting of the two was in a sense ironic, it is still the perfect commencement for this realistic fiction.…

Thank you for inquiring your data to our organization. We have completed an inventory of the biological diversity in Central America and interpreted the distribution of the Choloepus hoffmanni (two-toed sloth) and Bradypus variegatus (brown-throated three-toed sloths). The possible locations the sloths could be located are, agriculture (AG), low land old growth (LL OG), low land secondary forest (LL SF), mountainous old growth (MTN OG), mountainous secondary forest (MTN SF), and finally clear cut (CC). Our organization totals there to be a total 136 sloths to be in AG, 144 sloths in LL SF, and finally 75 sloths in LL OG. On the other hand, there are no sloths found in MTN OG, MTN SF, and CC. Given the data regarding the location of both the…

When listening to Ko-Ko by Duke Ellington’s orchestra, you hear several soloists; such as these five, Jimmy Blanton on bass, Ben Webster on tenor sax, Cootie Williams on trumpet, Johnny Hodges on the alto sax, and Duke Ellington himself on the piano. In this song each soloist plays for entire chorus expect for Joe Nanton which plays for both the second and third chorus; for example in the fourth chorus Ellington plays his piano solo, and in sixth chorus Blanton plays his bass solo. All the choruses throughout the song is in twelve-bar blues form. Nanton has a very distinctive sound, one being the growling “ya-ya” sound, which happens to be his signature sound. During his solo, he uses a pixie mute, which is fixed inside the trombone to create…

Subsequently, we see characters that represent a sloth all over the media. For example, we all know the cartoon Spongebob Squarepants. It may be a children’s cartoon, but many of the characters represent the seven deadly sins. Patrick, the big, pink starfish sleeps under a rock all day. When he is challenged by any remotely time consuming or straining task, the “gears” in his brain start to malfunction. His character is the epitome of what a sloth stands…
