The autonomic nervous system is a group of nerves that control anatomical processes like the heart rate, blood pressure, breathing and the functions of the gastrointestinal, sweating and elimination. These things that are happening in our bodies right now without us knowing about it. We definitely wouldn’t have control of any of these, except for blood pressure. Immune cells react to the presence of cortisol as part of the stress response. Affecting the nervous and endocrine systems, the immune system releases special chemicals called cytokines. The immune system can be affected by the mind. Stressing and negative and stressful mood swings can weaken the immune system. Calm, peaceful, happy and optimistic feelings can strengthen immune function.
