Tierra Mala
There’s always a house in every neighborhood that is out of place, the odd one out or as some may say unique. Well, in the little town of Frightensburg, California, in a strange neighborhood by the name of The Wallflower, there was one house that was peculiarly creepy and broken down. Around the house everyone called ‘Tierra Mala’, there was never sunlight, flowers didn’t grow and the sky was ALWAYS dark like a locked in a closet. ‘Tierra Mala’ didn’t always use to be this way, there was once a time where it was a place where events were celebrated and was a bright and welcoming place where everyone came to chat with each other. It was this way until the accident. An accident that would be remembered for years to come. One ordinary day, the …show more content…

Everywhere he went and as much as he tried to think about something else all he could think about was spending a night in that awful, dark, and twisted house. Right now Charlie was at school. It was the last period of the day and only 1 minute left until he could talk to Tommy, Charlie’s best friend since he was 3 years old and unlike Charlie was shy but was always smiling. ‘Ringggggg’ The bell finally rang and Charlie rushed of to find Tommy at his locker. When he got to Tommy’s locker, Charlie found a note on it that read, ‘If you ever want to see your beloved friend again come to ‘Tierra Mala’ tonight at midnight and prepare to face the challenges that await you here.’ As soon as Charlie finished reading the letter, a look of agony and confusion aroused on his face. For several days, he hadn’t discussed ‘Tierra Mala’ with anyone else but Tommy, who had been abducted by someone. Charlie suddenly stashed the note in his backpack and ran home to start packing for Tommy’s escape. When he was running home, as fast as he could, Charlie thought he was seeing a small black figure, who disappeared as soon as he was seen, like a shadow, who made no large movements, and who got larger as Charlie ran faster. Suddenly, Charlie realized that he had finally reached his house and ran

William sighed happily at the solitude he greatly enjoyed in the mindscape. He quietly hummed to himself. Ever since his brother was busy tormenting some new puppet of his named Dipper Pines, (or as he called him, Pinetree) it has been quiet. The silence never tore into him. In fact, talking tore into the young demon more than the silence. His thoughts were interrupted by black void surrounding him. He looks around, startled. He had no idea what was going on and this had never happened before. He saw a flash of pale yellow light, almost white and felt himself being pulled towards it. He heard voices the more he was pulled.…

The glistening, white snow fell slowly to the ground outside the window. The distinct shapes of the snowflakes shown; the light from the street lamp seeping through the cracks. The mumble of the heater in the corner of the room; the faint sound of the blood dripping onto the floor were the only sounds. He lay there; motionless. The thuds were entering the silent room once again. The creaking of the wooden floor grew louder and louder. Still the light of the street lamp shone through the window and onto the far wall. The nasty figure walked into the murky room. Only its shadow appeared on the far wall behind it. The boy in the bed was Eli. His tiny eight year old body was red with his own blood. Then……

I search for the tattoo shop, where I had flowers painted on my face with henna, for a Halloween party at Vivian’s. I ask Mark if the store is still there.…

You could hear all kinds of screams, the police rushing to the people, the men calling and asking not to bring their wives and children, and it was a great deal of confusion during more than one hour. You could hear the racing of the people on the stairs, the cries of children and suddenly there was a profound silence in our building. All the noise had ceased, there was a deep silence. Lia has fallen asleep in my arms, and I couldn't move in our hideout, and so the hours passed slowly. It had been a year since his best friend Brian had died in a car accident, but he still found himself missing him whenever there was a lull in his day. He had taken great care to fill his hours with study and school projects, but he couldn’t escape the long drives and sleepless nights that hounded him wherever he went, driving him further and further into solitude and loneliness. Louise Middleton, or Lulu, as she was fondly called by her mother, had been sitting on the hill for over forty minutes now. She bit her lip and found herself glancing around every time she heard a noise. Her fingers twitched and her heart was racing. Her mouth had turned dry but she forced herself to swallow. Suddenly, a shadow appeared on the ground in the distance. It began advancing towards her, growing longer and longer. Her heart pounded as she sat frozen, staring into the glaring light of the sun. It masked the owner of the shadow, though she had a sick feeling in the pit of her stomach that she knew exactly who it was. She could hear footsteps now. Footsteps of the shadow. A tall slender silhouette was advancing towards her. Clutched tightly in their hand was a screwed up piece of paper.…

The storyline follows the protagonist Sarah through her mental progress of accepting the death of her brother, Terry. The emotional aspects in the story are exemplified through the twisted chronology consisting of Sarah’s present life and flashbacks from her childhood. Black uses Sarah’s childhood home in Massachusetts as a contrast to show traces of Sarah’s mental state of denial. “To my own children, that long-neglected backyard is only part of grandma’s and grandpa’s house, where we go for Thanksgiving, for the Christmases with Lyle’s folks in California…”(p.2, ll- 52-53). It is shown here how the old backyard which used to hold a lot of importance for Sarah, her brother and their friends, has become a incidental place for annual occasions to her kids. This line emphasizes how Sarah has not passed on her joyful memories to her kids as a result of her lack of confrontation about her late brother. The protagonist has still not fully processed her sorrow and she is therefore not capable of have her children involved in her own childhood. Also it is seen that Sarah’s past still has a tremendous impact on her present life, as she speaks about the age gap between herself and Terry, comparing it to the amount of ages between her children Mark and Coco. The…

    One Night I Was Walking..

One late night I was walking and I looked up at the black sky. I was freezing cold; it felt like it was only 10 degrees outside. Well I guess that makes sense because it’s the middle of fall. I looked at my watch, it was about 10:06 pm, and I hadn't intended to be out this late I sort of just lost track of time. The sun had set, and there lies an empty road ahead that had no streetlights. My anxiety was through the roof once I realized I was in for a dark journey home. I had decided that by traveling through the forest would be the quickest way home. Minutes passed, yet it seemed like hours. The farther I traveled into the forest, the darker it seemed to get. It was very hard to even take a breath due to the stifling air. The only sound familiar to me was the quickening beat of my own heart, which felt as though it was about to come through my chest. In this kind of darkness I was in, it was hard for me to believe that I could be seeing these long finger shaped shadows that stretched out to me. I had this gut feeling as though something was following me, but I assured myself that I was the only one in the forest. At least I had hoped that I was.…
