Tissue Course Reflection
Throughout the Modes of Inquiry course, we did different activities that influenced my critical thinking and analytical ability. One of the two experiences that impacted me the most was the ropes course, because it taught me how to work as team and it helped me to start talking to other people and be less timid. The other experience that had an impact in my life was reading both books Blindspot and They Say, I Say. Thanks to them now I am more careful when I write and how I act towards others.
The ropes course was one of the first activities we did as a class. It help me remember the values of teamwork and goal achievement, by a number of exercises in which we had to come up with solutions to pass to the next one. The activities taught us to listen to different ideas and evaluate which one was more convenient. Also, we had to decide the best way to approach a problem and see what factors might influence the outcome, like trying to balance a platform with our weight. They made us use our analytical skills to relate this activities to our daily life and our role as college students. The lessons

Blindspot illustrated the importance of critical thinking in everyday situations and interactions. It taught me it is important to be more critical when meeting someone and not just judge them by stereotypes. Also, I related some of the things in the book to my sociology class. By using my analytical ability and critical thinking I understood why some groups in society have higher levels of poverty and why they are given less opportunities. In the same way, reading They say I say made me more conscious when writing a paper and to think in adding other people’s arguments instead of just my own. I have always struggled with writing papers, even in my own language, but this has been a really good tool for me. Now when I feel stuck, I can use the book as a resource to help me develop my ideas and convey them in an appropriate

I had an overall good reaction to this book. My first thought when looking at the cover was that it was going to be boring but as I began reading it, I realized that not only is it not boring, it's actually rather interesting, but it could also help me in my life as well. I have a tendency to over think even the simplest things and when I do make a quick decision, I always second guess myself. "Blink" by Malcolm Gladwell is a book that really makes you think about the way you react to things and why you react that way. It shows that the decisions we make quickly are just as good as the ones that require a lot of thought. It explains to us why we should trust our instincts, however, sometimes it's not good to follow…

Throughout this course, there were many concepts in which I feel have opened my eyes about not only how to analyze others, but myself as well. The concept locus of control I found very familiar in my everyday life. I feel like whether I am succeeding at something it is due to myself and if I am unsuccessful at a certain task that as well is due to my performance of set task. This is my way of showing internal locus of control. I feel being this way helps me to be independent and know I can succeed on my own but when I stumble I can take responsibility and learn from my mistakes and grow as a person. This promotes a strong sense of self-efficacy…

This course has given me a more humanistic view of fellow human beings. This is not to say that I did not before have compassion for other human’s beings; rather to say that my understanding of people and what they may be experiencing within their lives has changed some. We judge people everyday based on things such as appearance, speech and the like. If we look at things with a bit more empathy we can truly say that we can or have walked a mile in someone else's shoes. Many times sympathy takes control when really empathy should take hold. Personally, I implement new learning's into my everyday life. I learned to not be so quick to make a hasty decision and that actually hearing someone is different from just listening to them. Carl Rogers said this and I believe it has deep bearings within this course; "An assumption unusual in psychology today is that the subjective human being has an important value which is…

“The only worthwhile literature is that which makes you think about you own life.” This statement is valid for many reasons like, sometimes you can compare the story to your own life, it makes you think about what you said and done to other people, and the story can be a real eye opener and could possibly help you get your life back on track to the road of success. Two works of literature that support this quote are A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Spark and To Save a life by Jim and Rachel Britts.…

With time manangment, the class made me understand if you waste your time, you will not be going anywhere in your live. As a person now, time is very valuble to me, that is why…
