What is dialect? Dialect is the language, more specifically the speech habits, of a specific social class, region, or group. There are two standard forms of language in grammar, pronunciation, and in the use of certain expressions. In literature using dialect helps achieve two goals; one, establishing character, mood, and setting. Secondly, adding texture or charm for readers who do not speak the dialect. An artist that uses dialect very well is Robert Burns. Robert Burns was an author over the years of 1759- 1796. This woman, this rich woman, probably takes taxes from the poor underclass people that live in this town so another way to look at it is, she sucks blood from others so let the louse suck blood from her. Which leads to herself identity. The reason why she may wear all the makeup and the big hats, and the fancy dresses is because she thinks she looks best to make others think that she is the best. This woman thinks that she is so great but she is so blind to what is on her head. Same as everyone else, we are all so blind to our own mistakes and don’t like to admit our fears because it then opens up our insecurities. From the book, Walk a Mile In His Moccasins, the author, Don Dedera said, “Don’t judge a man until you have walked a mile in his moccasins.” Why would you make fun of her for having a flaw when you don’t understand what has happened to her because others can turn right around and do it to you. From the story, To a Louse, lines 47- 48, “What airs in dress an’ gait wad lea’e us, and ev’n devotion.” That if the woman were to see this louse on her she would feel insecure so why would he say anything at all because others are probably seeing a flaw on him right now. This woman does this all for herself-allusion. Makes her feel confident knowing everyone is staring at
