Atticus is living in a community who thinks whites are more superior than blacks.
Atticus is given the job of defending a black man Atticus is a man full of respect throughout the story we discover more and more about his charter. He’s know to be the man to do the difficult jobs and him defending a black man is one of them. Due to tom robinson's skin color black vs white he’s already guilty no question asked what makes it worst is that he's being accused of raping a white lady. Many folks in Maycomb called Atticus and his kids names because they felt he was wrong defending a black man.“nigger-lover is just one of those terms that don't mean anything—like snot-nose. It's hard to explain—ignorant, trashy people use it when they think somebody's favoring Negroes over and above themselves” (#). Atticus knew the danger of him protecting a black man and going against his town morals but he wanted to show his kids the right way how to live their lives. And not to kick a man when their down aka blacks because they’re already at the bottom of the social class why keep pushing them down when they have nothing. To hold on to. Atticus is making baby steps towards a less racist Maycomb“with no hint of winning in his voice, and found myself believing him in spite of his protesting” (#). “ tom robison reached around, ran his fingers under his left arm and lifted it” (#). Atticus knew about Mr robison injury and wanted the whole courtroom to see that he's a cripple. The crimes that …show more content…
he was accused for he couldn't have done. Due to the marks on mayella ewell face. The lady he was accused of raping. She lied to cover up that she was trying to have sexual interaction with mr robison due to neglection she was having at home she was very vulnerable. “he choked me, hit, then rapped me” (#). she told this lie just to cover up her own little dirty secret she didn't want to be outcasted by her community and shunned so she lied but Atticus defends mr robins the best he can giving the jury vital information to proof his innocence. And by making mr ewell looking like a fool. The importance of this chapter in the book is Atticus knows mr robinson is innocent and that his kids are watching him in the color section he doesn't care what happens to him but he wants his kids to know what's wrong from right and not accusing someone of doing something just by their race. Atticus is a very respected man and he wouldn't let a man go to jail for a crime he didn't commit without a fight
Atticus loses the case and tom robinson is put in jail for a crime he didn't commit. Tom Robinson was found guilty and was put in jail. A group of men came down looking for Mr Robinson to kill him but Atticus protecting him and told them he wasn't there. Even though he was outnumbered and had no chance of winning this fight plus he could've lost his life. That didn't matter to him he still stood up for something that he believed was the best thing to do. strongly in. “You know what we want,” another man said. “Get aside from the door, Mr. Finch.” “That’ll do, Scout.” Atticus put his hand on my shoulder. “Don’t kick folks. No -” he said, as I was pleading justification (#)”this is important because we so more about Atticus character. atticus continued to stand up for a black man going against his town's morals and society thinks it's sinful that Atticus supports and defends black people. they said it's a sin and anyone who does that is outcasted by their community and by doing this he is showing his kids wrong from right. And that violence is not acceptable no matter what kind of situation you are in don't stoop down to their level and do the same evil crimes they have done. Atticus is trying to teach the kids one important message not to catch the Maycom disease In the courtroom, the prosecution ask Tom why he helped Mayella with her chores "Yes, suh.
I felt right sorry for her, she seemed to try more'n the rest of 'em-”
This didn't settle too well with the jury they thought he was saying that he was better than them. Because he felt badly for a white girl, it was inferred that he was in a better position than she; this is a negative thing in racist society.Even though there was evidence proving his innocence, Tom had already lost the case, especially in that one statement. So to show Tom Robinson who is in charge and who has more power they decided he was guilty. Atticus is trying to teach the kids what's right not only his kids but his community Throughout the book Atticus has been but into some serious situation but throughout the book he stays true to himself no matter how much hate and names he was called he believe in something and he stuck with
