Tolstoy's Philosophy Of Leadership

I agree with Tolstoy's philosophy that history shapes and confines leaders. The picture painted in the excerpt from War and Peace places a significant amount of accountability on the follower. "It was necessary that millions of men whose hands lay the real power... carry out the will of these weak individuals (Wren, 1995. p. 57)" Blindly following self-absorbed leaders creates tyranny and dictators who do not have their followers best interests at heart. I don't believe that the "hive life" is using history to serve our own selfish gains (Wren, 1995. p.58) because at our deepest level we all feel a symbiotic connection to each other.
