Tom Kelley Reflection
I can relate to the video, “Do What You Love,” by Tom Kelley. I have always been good with math and accounting. I have been working with tax accounting for the last 18 years. I have lost the passion for taxes. That lost of passion has brought me to Full Sail. I have always had a passion for movies. I have always wanted to work behind the scenes. I am following through with my education to lead to a career in the entertainment industry. I am taking my passion for moves to lead my “life’s task” calling.
The example of what I have worked for on my Master’s journey is completing my bachelor’s degree in Entertainment Business. Education is an important step into becoming a master in my journey. I believe that with education has both a positive and negative impact on a person’s journey.
The example of the positive experience that I have learned is I was very dedicated when it came to my coursework. I struggled through high school with my coursework. I was often bored and would lose interest. I went to few junior colleges. I could never decide on a career that I wanted. I was going for four different degrees. I was the kind of guy who always strove in order to get the highest grades but yet hadn’t decided what to do in the future. I wasn’t worried, I knew someday I would find something in what I was good at. I got to live with that thought for some time until I got to attend middle school, where I stopped worrying about my grades and managed only to pass the subjects. I spent most of my time sleeping due to the frustration of not knowing what to do in the future. Most of my middle school experience was tasteless. I hadn’t friends at all, and teachers used to discourage their students about their future. “You're not going to college, you’ll not be able to do it because you’re poor” used to say, Mrs. Vazquez, the math teacher who instead of giving her class, talked on how much his son had accomplished in college and how we would not be able to attend. That was about to change.…

The problem was I wasn't sure what I wanted to do in the future. My parents wanted me to go into the medical field, but I felt like it wasn't for me. Science wasn't my favorite subject. Then during sophomore year and especially junior year. I realized what I wanted to do as a career. I noticed that I enjoyed cooking a lot and being in the kitchen. That's what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. One day I found out I had to switch schools. The new school I'm in Has a culinary program which I was very excited about. I asked them to place me in there. On the first day of school, I saw my schedule and I was very excited. I knew this is what I enjoy doing, but I didn't know if I wanted to continue it after high school. Through this program I learned that I do. In order for me to go to culinary school, I had to do my best in school because culinary school is not affordable. Especially for my family.
