Stereotypes Of Being In Pageants
Every time we see or meet someone we instantly judge them, even if we do not mean to. The same goes for us; however, we are constantly being judged by everyone around us. I have been judged in many ways: from playing sports, to competing in pageants, making first impressions with others, and making my own decisions. People judge me for being in pageants; there is a stereotype around them that the contestants are dumb blondes, which is not true I graduated as one of the top in my class along with all of the girls I have competed with. I was offered many scholarships to colleges across the state, and some pageants even give out scholarships to the winners. Pageant girls actually have to be smart to be able to do the interview with the judges. Then with softball it is a whole different stereotype, softball players are supposed to be tomboys and love to get dirty, but getting dirty is just part of the game. When people find out I did softball and pageants, I get a look of confusion because those two things do not usually go together. The first impression of me that someone may get might not always be right. When someone …show more content…
Whenever I tell anybody that I plan on being a special needs teacher I get a look of disbelief like why would I do that? But then they say that it takes a very special person to do that job. Well no one knows why I decided that as my major and when I tell them I decided it because I have a little cousin with special needs then they are just like oh. I also have been judged on who I date I am a white girl from Russellville that dated a Hispanic and trust me when I say that gets a lot of attention. It was not always easy because of the attention we got but we ended up being together for almost four years. But what people did not get is that I did not care that he was Hispanic he was one of the sweetest guys I had ever met and he treated me with respect and is that not all that

“It is one of the commonest of mistakes to consider that the limit of our power of perception is also the limit of all there is to perceive.”(Leadbeater) Many people believe the way something is perceived, is always the way that it appears to be. In reality, there might be more to a person he is willing to show. If we assume that the way someone or something is seen is always as it appears to be, we would be lying to ourselves. A surplus of people are not exactly how they are seen to be. We should not judge someone too harshly as we may not have all of the facts or details of what is really happening to a person. Perceptions can override our abilities to correctly judge our peers and even ourselves, which can be very impactful.…

Tiara Games , living in an area that had diversity has giving you great insight on the misconceptions and stereotypes that exist about some cultures. It is very enlightening to see that your friends were able to educate you about Spanish-speaking people, by providing you with the correct information your friends are helping alleviate stereotypes. Furthermore, the word Hispanic is a more accurate description of the people who speak Spanish, but for some reason even in our area that has a heavy Hispanic population people we equate this word to mean Mexican. Nevertheless, it is very refreshing to see that you are using this experience as motivation to continue to educate yourself about the many different cultures that exist in our society. The…

Also, because I am white, people often assume that I am of a more conservative mindset and that I do not support the advancement of rights for people of color, which is untrue. In order to rebel against this stereotype, I attempt to be both politically active and educated to support other people's viewpoints. Also, because I was raised into the Catholic faith, people assume that I do not support and am intolerant to reproductive rights and the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. I rebel this stereotype by disagreeing with many of the teachings that the Catholic church teaches. Also, because I am relatively young, many adults tend to be dismissive of my opinions and assume I do not have enough life experience, or non-technological human interaction to have a valid viewpoint. In these cases I attempt to be educated and voice my opinions eloquently.…

I was skeptical about one of my now good friends, Tristan. The reason for this is me and Tristan got into a fist fight in sixth grade. We fought because I thought he was trying to fight my friend, William because Tristan looked mean, after the fight we ended up talking and it turned out that my William and him were just messing around and it was all a misunderstanding. I judged Tristan because of his look and how he acted without knowing him, now we are good friends and play Clash Of Clans together. This anecdote relates to the story Freak the Mighty By Rodman Philbrick because I judged Tristan because of the way he looks, just as everybody did to Max at the beginning of the story but in the end they find out how they perceived him wasn't how Max really is.…

We all have encountered some type of stereotype or prejudices. A stereotype that I had to face was age prejudice by me being so young sometimes people don't set the high expectations for you that other people would at an older age because they expect for you to make mistakes. At times my mindset isn't where most kids are at my age. I skipped pre k and I am supposed to be in the 8th grade. When I tell people my age they be like " OMG you are young to be the grade that you are in" this is a perfect example of what I am stating that people sometimes think that you have to be average and can't go over and beyond your years.…

Recently on the internet, there has been a meme circling around. It starts with a person about to engage in something ridiculous, such as shaving their eyebrows, cutting their hair, etc. However, they stop at the last second, turning to the camera to say, “Don’t ever judge a book by its cover.” Though this meme is purely for entertainment purposes, the concept of making unfair judgements has been around for generations. Consequently, ample authors use the theme of not judging others in their works. For example, in Measure for Measure by William Shakespeare, the character Isabella argues that, “We cannot weigh our brother with ourself” (2.2.156). This quote can be interpreted in quite a few different ways, but the two that are the most prominent are that you cannot compare the actions of one human being to another, and that the only person you have the right to judge is yourself.…

Is it a way of earning money or throwing it away? Is it a way to build a person up or to tear them down? Is it a way to be a role model or a way to be ridiculed? These questions can most commonly be heard when discussing beauty pageants. There is an ongoing controversy about the benefits or harm that beauty pageants can cause to their contestants. There are two-sides to every controversy, but in the matter of pageants the benefits of entering one easily outweighs the negatives.…

Atticus Finch from the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Kathryn Erskine once said, “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view -- until you climb into his skin and walk around in it”. This quote is a very powerful one because judging people from the outside without knowing them is one of the biggest things people do in this world. This can be seen throughout the streets, schools, movies and even books such as Butter by Erin Jade Lange and Bruiser Neal Shusterman. In those books it shows a great deal about people judging the main characters before even getting to know them which is wrong.…

    Stereotypes and Athlete

Stereotypes are different thoughts that a variation of people hold about people who are different from them. A stereotype can be associated with a single word or slogan; such as nerd, or jock. Stereotypes can be expressed in either a negative or positive way. Most people apply stereotypes in a negative way to make them feel more superior over others. The category that most people would place me under would be the classification of an athlete or jock. The jock title that I have been placed under has been with me pretty much my entire life. I have played sports since I was four years old when I first started playing soccer and tee ball. From that moment on I have been active in almost every sport that my school has to offer. In high school the title was strongly addressed to me when the upper classmen did not know who I was. They would refer to me as the freshmen softball player or the soccer goalie. I have held the title strongly for a very long while. Even though I do not play sports now in college I still get asked if I play sports just because of the way I dress; I guess when you are just use to having that title it sticks with you. The category of a jock can possess many different stereotypes from dumb jock, lesbians, and also stuck up popular kids and many more.…
