Tony's Monologue
I told Tonya that moving across the country wasn't a heavy burden on me or her father. I told her that I was relieved that we did, because it was time that the John’s branched out. I even went as far to say that we could afford the move.
If there was anything that I’ve learned in the past 17 years, it was that being parent is hard and sometimes it calls you to make some tough sacrifices. Even though everything I told Tonya was a lie, it warmed my heart to see her smile. Teenagers seldom did where their parents were concerned.

In the tears of my eyes, I could see all of her transitions and milestones up until this moment in time and I felt true pride in what Daniel and I had made together. It almost made me miss him...almost. She introduced herself and stated her reason for being on the show. She smiled down at me briefly, but soon noticed that her father wasn't in his seat. By this time the beginning notes of the instrumental began to play and her eyes remained glued to the vacant spot beside me. Just like that she missed the starting lyrics..and just like that she missed the next two as well. Finally she opened her mouth to sing and a sharp croak bellowed out from her throat like the wail of a red fox. She stumbled back horrified by the unfamiliar sound she made and the whole crowd gasped. Everyone went silent and you could hear her heavy breathing in the microphone, the sound so pronounced that you could feel it on your face. The crowd said nothing and the judges tried to cover their chuckles. Incidentally, her father finally returned from the “bathroom” and because he was too busy trying to seem like he wasn't fucking someone in the dressing room, he misinterpreted the silence for awe and began to clap and cheer loudly for her. At that moment Tonya ran off the stage

She whispered, “You’ll never know how much I love you”. As the person living on the child end of the parent-child relationship, it was wonderful to hear, even under the horrific conditions we found ourselves. It gives credence to that saying, “tell the people you love you love them because you’ll never know if you’ll ever get the chance again”.…

CRASH. SCREEECH-BANG! Many protesting and angry yells went up into the pale NYC morning sky, caused by what looked like a small, red, and motorized wagon. It looked like this because that was exactly what it was. This “Motor-wagon” was piloted by a young-ish, tall-ish, and mostly bald man named Evan Victor Ite-Laught.…

My father trotted up to the dart game, like he was a big shot. I requested if I could play at least once. I closed my dark brown eyes and squinted very tight at the only balloon I wanted.…

Silence entered the air after I stepped out of my apartment complex. Slamming the door hard, I walked out of the building and started strutting down the sidewalk into town. Several arguments left the air after I stepped out into the cold, frosty morning of November in Tulsa, Oklahoma. My parents have been arguing for months now, and I can’t take it. I mean, they’re good parents and have given me a nice place and all, but they always are getting drunk and argue all the time. I’ve tried to leave home multiple times but I always end up winding back. I poked at my shaggy, greased blonde hair. I’m a labeled greaser and belong to Tim Shepard’s gang. I mean they’re fun and all, but sometimes I can’t stand them. They watch out for me, we’re buddies, but they’re always drunk and wound up in fights all the time. It’s just like at home, but with the gang I feel more like they’re not gonna leave me.…

As I descend the stairs from the stage, trepidation saturates my body. During my performance, I retained my focus on Angelo's table to observe Patsy dancing in her seat, while Angelo sat back with his arm stretched along the back of the sofa, wearing a smile on his lips as he watched me. But John, his angry glare remained on his bottle of beer most of the time. When he did glance my way, the fury that spewed forth from his penetrating glare was terrifying. If I could convince Patsy to abandon John for the rest of the evening, maybe we could have a pleasant time with Angelo, instead of enduring the melancholy ambience produced by John.…

Hello, I wanted to send you an email about something that was concerning to me after the game today. Kate came off the field very upset and unfortunately I had two other players with me that I was transporting home so I didn’t get much of a chance to discuss this with her until tonight. She wouldn’t tell me what was wrong right away, but one of the other players told me she was upset because her coach said there were three players that didn’t hustle and just stood there during the game today. Now I have taught for many years and also coached and take everything an 8 year old tells me with a grain of salt.…
