Mr. Dan Sullivan
Curriculum & Guidance Assistant Principal
Mission Viejo High School
Dear Mr. Sullivan this is to inform you that Mission Viejo High School has too much homework.
Students at Mission Viejo High School are getting hours and hours of homework. The issues about this are teenagers are losing lack of sleep.
Lack of sleep limits your ability to learn, listen, concentrate and solve problems. You may even forget important information like names, numbers, your homework or a date with a special person in your life. Lead to aggressive or inappropriate behavior such as yelling at your friends or being impatient with your teachers or family members.
If it was just a matter of early-morning fogginess this wouldn’t be a big deal, but sleep deprivation in teens has been linked to lower levels of Human Growth Hormone, which is integral to a teenager’s physical growth, brain development, and maturation of their immune system, as well as higher rates of anxiety disorders and depression. A 2010 study in the journal Sleep found that teenagers who go to bed after midnight are 24 percent more likely to suffer from depression and 20 percent more likely to consider harming themselves than those who go to bed before 10:00 p.m.
Another great reasons why there is too much homework at Mission Viejo High School are: Teens at Mission Viejo are very creative, have hobbies, and love spending there time with there friends. Painting, drawing, skateboarding, exercising, sports, work, are just a few activities that teens are involved in and more than likely wish they had more to do them.
Life is not balanced when there is no sleep. So I ask to please assign homework to a little to none at all.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
