Should Students To Get Rid Of Homework In School
Do you get enough sleep at night? Or do you not get enough because you stayed up all night doing homework? A challenge that students face each day is having to do all the homework they have and getting enough sleep. Students can overcome this challenge by going to the School Board Office and stating this problem, paying more attention in class to finish some of it in class, and trying to keep and follow a schedule so they can do homework and sleep on time. We have to do this if we want our children to be healthy.
An easier way to overcome this problem children have is by telling the School Board Office. How is this going to help? Well many parents have already done this, telling the School Board Office does help. The School Board Office could just limited how much homework a student can have each day. They can get rid of homework, so the students can do their extracurricular activities. If the school board office does limit or get rid of homework, students can go to

Sleep is the fuel that humans need to properly function. The amount of sleep people need is determined by their circadian rhythm, or biological clock. A teenager’s circadian rhythm differs from that found in an adult or younger child. While going through puberty, teenagers need more sleep than when they become adults. Researchers from the National Sleep Foundation have identified several changes in sleep patterns, sleep/wake systems, and circadian timing associated with puberty. In the last decade, a few high schools from around the world have changed to a later start time that would better suit the sleep cycles of their students. Studies by the National Sleep Foundation in the last five years have shown that schools with later start times better suit their student’s sleep cycles, decreased the dropout rate, and that the students are more alert and have better grades. All schools should change their start times to a later time period to better accommodate their students’ sleeping patterns, resulting in better performance in school.…

Have you ever felt the unbelievable satisfaction of coming home from a long day and going straight to bed? Most of us have, but unfortunately many teens can not solely rest when they get home from school. Schools all across America have been pushing later start times; greatly affecting the personal life of students, teachers, and parents. Later start times to schools only reject productiveness throughout your day by procrastinating the work you should be doing. The issue of school’s starting later influences students by leaving them with no time after school, disrupting their transportation schedule, and teaching them the significant lesson of responsibility.…

If you had the choice, would you choose to sleep or go to school? Wouldn’t you want school to start later so you could get your nine hours? Well, it’s not as ideal as it seems. For the past few years, the Littleton Public Schools district, along with other school districts around the country, discussed the idea of the change of school start and end times. For the most part of this school year, the district has started to ask parents and students for their opinions and to come up with different solutions that will appeal to everyone. One of the biggest reasons that the district would need to change the times befalls the lack of sleep that students receive. Pamela McKeever, the leader of a study of adolescent sleep said that, "...research explains…

Humans are naturally programmed to have to rely on sleep for energy throughout the day. However, as school times become earlier and earlier, it is evident that students turn to other sources of energy such as caffeine and energy drink to keep them awake throughout the day. Allowing students to replace their sleep with other forms of energy in the long run, can lead to obesity or depression and also challenges students to keep a balanced diet which is essential to a healthy lifestyle. Because of this, early high school start times have been labeled the reason for poorer academic performances as well as negative health effects. According to Julie Boergers, Ph.D., a Psychology and sleep expert, “It is well-known that sleep deprivation is common among teens, with potentially serious impacts on mental and physical health, safety and learning. ‘Early high school start times contribute to this problem’”(Boergers). She also mentions that if schools attempt to change the times to match students natural sleep patterns which is staying up late and waking up later in the day, “‘we will have students who are more alert, happier, better prepared to learn, and [who] aren’t dependent on caffeine and energy drinks just to stay awake in class’”(Boergers) Pederson highlights through these quotes, that many students depending on quick and easy unhealthy sources of energy to stay awake in class negatively affects the…

High schools throughout the United States start their school day at times that are too early for students. Teenagers have a biological wake time, and when schools start early in the morning, it interferes with teens biological clock. According to a study done by Harvard Medical School, young adults need at least nine hours of sleep every night. The study also shows that the need for sleep is never greater in our lives than it is during adolescence, but yet the conflict between school and sleep is at it’s highest while teens are in high school. Many educators believe that if teens just went to bed earlier, they would…

"It's eight a clock in the morning, and I just rolled out of bed. Today, Thursday is a late start at North Farmington High School. I am wide-awake and ready to start school due to the eight hours of sleep I got last night," said one student. Another student told her story, but the only difference was the day she told her story it was not a late starts. "I feel horrible. I had to wake up at 6:00 a.m. so that I had enough time to shower before school. I fell asleep in my first two classes, and I could blame this on the sleep I got last night; or should I say the lack of sleep- only 6 hours." Students would perform better if school started at a later time.…

One of the many pressures a college student faces is the amount of homework we endure. At Southern Nazarene University, we have different classes each day. Having a different class every day comes with a lot of homework. Homework is the cause of decreasing grades. In college you are overwhelmed with homework. There are two different types of opinions when it comes to the term “homework.” One of these opinions is that too much homework causes students to disengage. Others, however, claim that homework is necessary and helpful. As a result of all this homework, college students are forced to stay up late hours, which leads me to my next point of maintaining sleep.…

My junior year in high school I took two classes from teachers who gave immense amounts of work on difficult material. The classes were Honors Pre-Calculus and Advanced Biological Studies II. After a day at school and a demanding golf practice until dark, it was time to start my homework. By then I was already exhausted, but I still had hours of homework ahead of me. Most schools nights I would not be able to start my hefty pile of homework until 8 o'clock. Many nights the strenuous assignments given in Honors Pre-calculus and Advanced Biological Studies II kept me awake late into the night, even as late as 4 am. It was difficult struggling to stay awake and complete my strenuous workload after an entire day of activity. A full night of sleep…

If only they went to bed earlier, concentration and attentiveness would improve. But in their report, the researchers say the schools are ignoring adolescent biology and are “systematically restricting the time available for sleep and causing severe and chronic sleep loss.” They're not alone. The chorus of voices in favor of schools starting later had been getting louder. In August, the Centers of Disease Control (CDC) issued findings that lay out a stark and sobering picture of how sleep deprivation harms teenagers, a common problem among high school students especially, adolescents who don't get enough sleep (CDC recommends 9-10 hours) have an increased risk of being overweight, suffering depression, and struggling academically.…

When you look in a high-school classroom what do you see? You’ll most likely see a teacher trying to teach, phones, and if you look real closely there’s those kids trying to keep their eyes open. Today, a giant percentage of high school students aren’t getting enough sleep on a daily basis. Students have to wake up early, go to school for about 7 hours, any after school activity, then come home and have no free time because you have hours of homework. Teenagers are simply not getting enough sleep. So how can we resolve this issue that can effect students’ lives? Evidence has shown that starting school at a later time has increased heath and caused teens to focus.…

Many teens in are asking “What is the big deal I am just a little tired?” But not only are twenty-eight percent of those teens falling asleep in there first block class, but they also tend to get a worse grade than those individuals that fall asleep at the same time every night and take time to replenish their body at least one time in every week. I advise the school district take a later school start into consideration because if we do have a later start there will be results. In the essay “I’m not tired” by Alice Park experts said that teens are not getting nearly enough sleep. The video on NBC, teens said they felt overscheduled.…

    School Should Start Later

On average in today’s society most teens don’t like going to school that early in the morning. To have to wake up so early when they only get about seven hours of sleep, to have students be coming into school at 7:30AM or maybe even earlier in some other schools, is not right. Students need to have time at night to get work done, not only schoolwork but also non-schoolwork. Needless to say, the school schedule for high school students needs to be changed and be made where they go in later. That way they get their work done and get enough sleep because without much sleep students will not be getting high grades. A health survey that the University Health Center administered showed them that one in four students say that lack of sleep has affected their academic performance in a bad way (“Sleep Rocks”). Sleep deprivation impairs students’ ability to be alert, pay attention, solve problems, cope with stress, and retain information. Academic performances on students are low due to lack of sleep. Schools should start later so students would get more sleep at home and it would prevent them from sleeping in class, so the students would have more motivation and students’ academic grades would increase. Sleep is an important part to each and every person. It helps…

A common phrase among young adults in secondary education is that there are three parts to high school life: social life, grades, and sleep. Pick two. Clifton Parker, on a study by education scholar Denise Pope, states “spending too much time on homework mean[s] students [are] ‘not meeting their developmental needs or cultivating other critical life skills,’” Students [are] more likely to drop activities, not see friends or family, and not pursue hobbies they enjoy.” To achieve grades that fulfill collegiate ambitions, students must spend all of the time they may spend with family or friends on the homework that earns them points. Teachers often assume that a student’s overall productivity is defined by the amount of work completed in a night. Many end up assigning at least an hour of homework to assure themselves that the kids are learning. Real life productivity is defined by advancement and development of character or leadership. Through that lens, completing busywork is not productive. Once students reach the real world, they are underprepared and underdeveloped to face day to day challenges. In an interview, Christine Gross-Loh quotes Krista Kuru, Finnish Education Chief, describing the reasoning against this approach. She states “Academics isn't all kids need. Kids need so much more. School should be where we teach the meaning of life; where kids learn they are needed; where they can learn community skills.…

It is recommended that high school students receive at least nine hours of sleep per night to do well in school. Students are involved in many after school activities that prevent them from getting the required amount of sleep and still begin the school day. If students are too tired to stay awake in class, they will not learn the material. The loss of…
