Describe your experience Chapter 10 from Tools for Mindful Living discussed a universal topic – communication. This chapter stood informative and helpful, as it discussed a topic known to all individuals. The reason that the topic of communication rests interesting is because it entails two components – spoken language and nonverbal communication. While spoken language reflects cultural differences, with diverse languages spoken throughout the world, nonverbal communication rests understood by nearly every individual, despite their geographical location. Since birth, we attempt to converse with those around us, struggling to communicate our needs and desires. By fully encasing myself in the words of the speaker, I found myself experience the story as if it stood as my own. Assertive communication endorses an individual to recognize experiences as their own, feeling identical emotions and thoughts as the speaker. This personal connection allows for a respectful and caring experience.
THOUGHTS: When I practice assertive communication, I noticed that stood focused on providing support, rather than searching for advice to solve their problems. As the chapter clarified, individuals do not seek advice; they simply want to feel heard. I completely agree with this statement, as when I vent to an individual, I just need to let out my bottled up emotions. By offering advice, you take away an individual’s ability to personal solve a problem, based on their values and beliefs. While offering advice rests helpful, when requested, the thoughts should entail consuming the experience, not advising
