Maya Ying Lin By: Srivarshini Parameswaran Maya Lin is one of the most modern architects you probably have ever known. Maya Lin was born on October 5, 1959 in Athens, Ohio. She was also an artist and a sculptor. The book Boundaries was also by her. Maya designed the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in 1982, the Civil Rights Memorial in 1989, Groundswell in 1995, The Wave Field in 1995, Flutter in 2005, and other great projects. Maya’s mother was a poetry writer and she teaches literature. Her father designed china or ceramics and he became the Dean of Fine Arts. Her parents were both immigrants from China. They both taught some courses at Ohio University. Maya has earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1981 and a Master of Architecture degree in 1986 at Yale University. While Maya was an architecture pupil in Yale University, she made the largest design in American history. She designed the Vietnam Veterans Memorial as a school project. After leaving Yale University, Maya designed a lot of other projects such as the Peace Chapel at Pennsylvania’s Juniata College, the “Women’s Table, “at Yale University and the Langston Hughes Library in Clinton, Tennessee. The Civil Rights Memorial she designed shows dedication or words on a disc of black stone beneath a thin layer of moving water. She also made The Wave Field at the University Of Michigan College Of Engineering. It is made purely from earth, and has waves up to six feet high. In the Eleven Minute Line, Maya contrasts two and 3-dimensional space.

While Maya was an artist, a sculptor, and an architect, her projects were mostly about the environment. At 2005, she was elected to the National Women’s Hall of Fame. She was also elected to the American Academy of Arts & letters. Maya Lin deserves all those awards because she is a fascinating person to learn about.

And maybe, just maybe the best piece in the museums, and that is just by looking at pictures and watching videos, I might change my mind when I actually go there one day.…

Unfortunately, the great depression did not happen just in America it was worldwide phenomena, were every nation in this universe got sunk into it. Despite the Depression 1930’s period was rich with art, literature, radio, music, and shows. I think what is significant between her architectural designs at the park, and other artwork in this era is that all of these artist want so tell the American History, preserve what’s left, for new times to come for new generations. While she was designing, The Watchover tower she had in mind Native American culture, which is obvious in all of her artwork.
