Touch My Peewee Essay
“So tell me what did he do to you and where did he touch you”. That is the questions all abuse victims are asked, and to most it is the most painful one. “He would put his peewee in my peewee, and touch my peewee”. Those are the words no parent or adult wants to hear come from a child’s mouth. Child abuse is sadly a common issue that our society has to face, and I was one of those who went through it. I was sexually abused by my grandfather multiple times day from the age of three to six and half. I was abused multiple times day in different ways each time, and it was only when I was left alone with him. My parents left me alone with him twice a week on weekdays, and everyday on the weekends. The most painful memory I have is when I was lying in bed when I felt his hands run down my pants. His cold hands rubbed across my body and all I could do was sit there shaking in …show more content…

My boyfriend picked me up and held me tight but all I could say was “ I'm sorry I had a dream about the abuse I suffered”. My ex made a vow to not let another man hurt or touch me like that. The pain that my grandfather left on me is something nobody can protect me from or save me from. Most abused children are terrified of things that could have been used in the abuse mine is elderly men. My ex boyfriend took me to go meet his grandparents and he left me with his grandfather. When he returned after five minutes I was visibly shaking my ex's dad thought I was disrespecting his parents. My ex informed his father that of how I get scared. Sexual abuse in children is a significant problem not only in the United States, but in other countries as well. In 1997, the National Institute of Justice released a report revealing that of 22.3 million children in the United States between the ages of 12-17, 1.8 million were the victims of sexual abuse. (Dominquez,Ph D. et al.,2005) According to a 2009 study in Clinical Psychology Review, out of the children who were sexually abuse 19.7 % were girls and 7.9 % were boys. (Wikipedia, 2012). Believe it or not, Africa is the country with the most reported child abuse cases at a 34.4% (Wikipedia, 2012). The question that seems to arise when sexual abuse is brought up is: What exactly is sexual abuse? When looking up “child sexual abuse”, it is defined as being a criminal offense in which any adult engages in any sexual activity with a minor or uses the minor for sexual gratification. There have been cases in which the attacker has tried stating the victim in question consented to what was done. However, according to The American Psychiatric Association “children cannot consent to sexual activity with adults.…

On a personal note: I was the second of four girls at the time. I remember being ten years old and my mom met this guy. He seemed awfully nice at first bringing us treats each time he would come by to visit my mom. As the years went by he finally started sleeping by our house, and this is when it started. First the touching started with my eldest sister, and this was told to our mom, and like most mothers do, she did not believe my sister. Then the touching started with me as well, this happened when everyone was asleep, it even went as far as him rubbing up against me when I. I awoke startled and then he ran outside. I then confronted my mom about this, she then proceeded to ask him and of course he denied the accusations, saying that I don’t like him and that I wanted him to move.…

With physical abuse, the most damaging part is the fear of getting hurt. Emotional or psychological abuse can create the same fear with repeated threats, even if actions are not actually taken. Emotional abuse can inflict the same mental effects that physical abuse inflicts, but they are typically longer lasting. Emotional abuse is harder to detect and report because there is no physical evidence, but out of a study of 5,616 children who have experienced some type of abuse, “the majority (62 percent) had a history of psychological maltreatment, and nearly a quarter (24 percent) of all the cases were exclusively psychological maltreatment”…

When it comes to child abuse, a victim may be unwilling to disclose any information of the types of abuse that they may have endured. Disclosure simply means telling someone of the abuse that you may have endured (Burgess, Regehr, & Roberts, 2013). A victim is more likely to disclose information after a prolonged amount of time after the perpetrator of the abuse is no longer around the victim or once the victim experiences emotional upheaval (Burgess, Regehr, & Roberts, 2013). However, delayed disclosure can occur due to several factors that my influence the child to speak on the information. For example, the relationship between the victim and the offender can play a huge role on whether the victim decides to speak up, especially if it is a family member (Burgess, Regehr, & Roberts,…
