Tragedy Affects Community
How does tragedy affect community? Tragedy is an event causing great suffering, which is what happened 15 years ago. On September 11th, 2001 terrorist hijacked planes and attacked important buildings. That day many lost their lives and many more were injured. Our community deals with tragedy by making memorials and showing pride in our country.

One way we deal with tragedy is by showing pride in our country. For example, in the President's speech he did with a bullhorn he was dressed as a regular person to show he was just like them. Also during his speech when he would make a point the citizens there would cheer U.S.A. They would show that they would proud to be apart of this country. Another way we showed pride in our country was

In George W. Bush’s Columbia Speech the speaker uses tone and a pathos appeal to accomplish in soothing the country after a terrible accident. The president’s tone throughout his speech is very somber and very sad for the majority of the speech. “Our entire nation grieves with you. And those you loved will have the respect and gratitude of this country.” He is very sad that the astronauts on the Columbia died. The president also appeals the nation's pathos ideals by taking verses out of the bible and talking about God “May God bless the grieving families. And may -- may God continue to bless America.” Using this two things the president sends home the fact that he and the rest of the country are grieving for the men and women in died in the Columbia Tragedy.…

The United States people discovered how much pride they held as a nation. In America Under Attack it is explained that some Americans became so motivated by the service the volunteers that they decided to enlist in the military service, hoping to help protect the United States. This is an example of how much people’s lives were affected from the attacks, that people were inspired to serve their country and to help keep an event like this from happening again. It is stated that "Some flew the American flag from their front porches and car antennas. Others pinned it to their lapels or wore it on t-shirts. Sports teams postponed games. Celebrities organized benefit concerts and performances" (Reaction para. 1). All citizens of the country wanted to express patriotism in some way, demonstrating the strength of America. In it says that "Nearly 36,000 units of blood were donated to the New York Blood Center after the September 11 attacks" (Reaction para. 3). Although many victims of the attacks were in critical condition, they had support nationwide. The citizens of America came together to demonstrate their pride as a.…

American people are stronger when united than apart. Tragedy tends to test the bond between people. For The Jewish people tragedy came during The Holocaust and for America tragedy struck during 9/11. It is not how tragedy hits, but how people react to it. Some people shut down and isolate themselves. While others surround themselves with people for support. It is a common trend, that the survivors of The Holocaust surrounded themselves with others for support. This is an example of what can come from the support of others “I felt a cool hand wiping the blood from my forehead. It was the French girl” (Wiesel, 53). Elie was severely beaten and someone helped. To Elie…

There was Pearl Harbor, Oklahoma City, and now 9-11 is added to the list of American tragedies. With all the deaths of 9-11 almost everyone knows someone or knows someone who knows someone that was either in the World Trade Center and survived or died in the World Trade Center. This is an extremely sad but true way to look at it. Our country now tries to move on from this terrible experience, but will never forget it. 9-11 affected everyone as a whole as well as personally.…

The news of any tragedy can quickly spread through towns and cities close to the area where it happened, and it can also spread to other states and possibly the whole country depending on the severity of the tragedy. There is always one headline that attracts the attention of the whole country and possibly other countries and when it does knowing the specific audience can help the delivery of how a message is sent and received. One headline that caught everyone’s attention including myself was the tornado that ripped through Moore, Oklahoma that killed dozens of people and destroying homes and businesses on May 20, 2013. There had been other tornadoes and other natural disasters in other areas but the damage and the deaths of many people interested the audience. When a large audience as big as the United States is front and center to this type of situation, the type of method used for delivering information is different from presenting information to a small city or town and the friends and family members that are involved in the incident. The nature of the information must be held with caution when expressed from a political and professional stand point. Communicating to the world as a whole, the audience looks back at not only the Oklahoma government but how the United States government handled the situation as well. No one wants to look bad to the world audience for sending out the wrong message or lying about what has happened so a lot of consideration has to be put into how a message is carefully delivered in the world public.…

One of the things that can tell you how our generation defines what it is to be an American is how you act in a time of tragedy. I know that there hasn't been a lot of tragedy in our lifetime but I think that the biggest tragedy in our lifetime is the Boston Bombing. I remember in fifth grade turning the television on CNN and watching the chaos happen to the innocent people there. Thank goodness there were only 3 death and not more but, there were still a lot of injured people who had to go to the hospital.…

America has been through a lot of stressful events. Some events ended up killing many loved ones. Some destroyed part of our country, but it has also brought us all closer together. There are some articles that I have read that explain and show the sorrow and extreme pain of an America as a country. Three articles that I have read shows, in great detail the destruction that has happened. “A Quilt of a Country”, “The Gettysburg address,” and “The Vietnam Wall” all have similar things in common like death, memorial, and unity. They all symbolize each item within each article.…
