to our society, and the age long ideals of the gender binary, that they feel the brunt of discrimination and hate. When gays and lesbians are discriminated against, its their desire for the same sex that is under attack, something that is usually hidden and not out there, but trans people are much easier to attack because the “issues” they have are much more visible, and that means they are worse in the eyes of a attacker. Trans-misogyny is steeped in the assumption that femaleness and femininity are inferior to, and exist primarily for the benefit of, maleness and masculinity. This idea is why so many male-to-female transgender individuals are discriminated against more that others. Research shows that boys that display characteristics that are regarded as feminine, are viewed far more negatively, and brought in for psychotherapy far more often, than girls that act in a more masculine way#. This is because of the inherent belief that women are somehow not as good as men, a ageing and stupid belief, that until about a 100 years ago was very-very common. Thankfully nowadays women are being accepted as equal to men and the gap between the two sexes is closing up. The media plays a very large part in solidifying the image of male-to female transsexuals as perverts, who transition to female in order to fulfill a strange sexual fantasy, or as sex workers, who please the clients strange sexual fantasies and the age-old image of the transsexual as a sexual deceiver, preying on innocent straight men. I remember in third or fourth grade, there was a show on TV, “There's Something About Miriam” about a pre-operative male-to-female trans, who looked like a woman, and identified as one, but who at the time had the sexual organs he was born with intact. The show was about him trying to find his dream man. The contestant were not made aware of Miriams secret, and his secret was revealed during the finale of the show to the winner.Fortunately, on air the bachelor seemed happy about his lovers true identity, but off camera, the winner declined the prize money, and joined the other contestants in a lawsuit against the production company on grounds of alleged conspiracy to commit sexual assault, defamation, breach of contract, and personal injury in the form of psychological and emotional damage.. The finale, and the bachelors reaction can be seen here. As one might expect, the response to the show was not favorable, critics named it one of the worst reality TV shows ever, and it was scolded for the hatred against trans women it fostered. When the show aired in the United States, trans author Julia Serano noted, "Programs like “There's Something About Miriam” not only reinforce the stereotype that trans people's birth sex is 'real' and our identified/lived sex is 'fake,' but they perpetuate the myth of deception and thus enable violence against us."# But why does trans misogyny hurt us all?
It hurts us, because trans misogyny is misogyny against all women, no matter gay, straight, bi or transgender, misogyny affects all women, and trans women are women, they identify as women, and some of them are lucky enough to have the bits and bobs ( pun intended ) to be women and even the ones that don't are still women. If you are telling trans women they can’t be wome, you’re telling every woman on the planet she can’t be whatever she wants. The whole idea of discriminating someone for being who they are is dumb. If you take a trans woman who farts, talks with a deep voice, wears jeans and wifebeaters, goes to the gym and eats his beef charred and tell her she is not a woman because a woman does not do that, I can find you at least seven other women who all do the same, and they won't all be lesbian or straight or bi or questioning or asexual, but they will all be women and that trans woman has the same right to be called a woman as the other
seven. In conclusion I think that any kind of hate is not good for us as humans, be it against transgender people, gays, lesbians, queer or anything else nature can cook up. The sooner we all realize that we are not as different as FOX news or your pastor tells you, the sooner we can start solving bigger problems.
