Trickster Tale: The Sun and The Moon
The Sun and the Moon
Many, many years ago before humans walked the Earth; the Earth would stay dark all twenty four hours of the day. The moon and stars being lovers would flourish in the sky all day and night long. Back then, the sun would never come out from behind the moon. Those reasons were unknown, but one day the sun had enough and became enraged in jealousy. Being clever and witty the sun devised a plan to kick the moon’s lover out of the sky and have the moon for him. The moons lover, Mahigan, was very gullible and only lived to please the moon and love the moon. Knowing this, the sun approached Mahigan and made a proposition to him. “You know the Earth has beautiful roses. I’m sure the moon would absolutely love a bouquet of them. All you have to do is go down on land and pick some and then return,” the sun said sneakily. “Wow that’s a great idea,” replied Mahigan. “I shall go down and return with the prettiest flowers for my love.” Mahigan was very naive and unknowingly he crossed the spirit border between the sky and the earth. After you cross this border, you are forbidden to return to live in the sky and are banished to roam the earth. When he realized he could not return, he became encompassed with sadness and longing for the moon. He began to howl for the moon. The moon realizing what happened immediately became stricken with grief and began to weep. She didn’t even want to live in the sky without Mahigan. The sun seeing the moon so sad thought it was the perfect time for him to sweep in and become the friend the moon needed, but it backfired. The moon was so sad and depressed she cut herself off from any contact with anyone for the longest time causing the sun to stay in the sky and take her place.
Finally over time, she came back into the sky, but only for a certain number of hours. The rest of her time is spent crying and looking through the land for Mahigan. Mahigan also spends his days very sad and lonely. Every time he sees the

In The Secret Life of Bees, Sue Monk Kidd alludes to the first lunar landing to communicate that the mystery of the moon is more intriguing than its discovery. For example, August explains her distress when she hears of Ranger 7’s mission to the moon: “‘Now it won’t ever be the same, not after they’ve landed up there and walked around on her [the moon]. She’ll be just one more big science project’” (114). August further explains that the moon is fascinating because of its ambiguity, and now that humans have access to it, the moon’s mystery is uncovered. Thus, the reality of scientific discoveries replaces the mystical beauty that the previously untouched moon once held. On July 31, 1964, Ranger 7 lands on the moon and sends pictures back to…

The splashes of the freezing spillway mixed with the cold wind coming off the water sent chills down my back. I yawned, the loud purr of the tugboat next to us made it impossible to hear my uncle ask if I was tired. We were passing the train of barges right after we left the launch and were headed into the woods. I have done all this before. It was all familiar to me. The only difference was that I had never been out here this early. The eerie white light of the moon was the only thing that let us see right now. Luckily for us the moon was huge and full tonight. It was about 4:30 in the morning and we were speeding into the swamps of the spillway. I looked at my uncle and I saw him standing up, driving the boat, with a smile on his face. This was his job and he loved it. When you love the wilderness, being out in the woods for eight hours a day was a treat. Especially when it ended with picking up a paycheck of about a thousand dollars at the end of each of those days.…

In his last, and unfinished, story “The Last Tycoon,” readers can see a constant moon imagery. Piacentino says that the moon imagery “serve to highlight the illusive quality of Hollywood and the motion picture industry generally and that of Monroe Stahr particularly, the latter a major influence on the Hollywood dream world". The moon is meant to emphasize “magic, fantasy and the mystique of Stahr’s dreams.” ( Piacentino…

In the eighth chapter titled “Foua and Nao Kao,” Fadiman describes the process in which Foua and her daughter, May, transform the narrator into a picturesque bride. Fadiman explained, “Foua’s work must in some way have had the intended effect, because a week later [her boyfriend] George asked [her] to marry him (103).” Though this story seems quite simple on the outside, it serves a much larger purpose within the novel. By infusing herself into the telling of the story, Fadiman portrays the idea that The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down is not only a medical reference or dedication to Hmong culture, but a personal and complicated…

The sun and the moon form part of our universe, where they both hold their own power and value. The sun is in the center of the solar system with nine planets moving around it. The light given from the sun helps us experience the day and the night. After the sun, the moon is the the brightest object in the sky. Though the light that shines at night does not originate from the moon, it is reflected by sunlight. Their differences from each other are responsible for the life that we live in this Earth. Knowing about the sun and moon we can relate their relationship to the Spanish and the Aztec. The Aztec hold the position of the sun. When they first settled on the swampy island called Tenochtitlan, it became…
