Trimesters vs. Semesters
Are trimesters more benefiting for students in high school? There are multiple reasons to support that trimesters are more benefiting for students in high school. Having trimesters gives students flexibility in making their schedule each year. Trimesters can also help the curriculum throughout the school. Also, it can help with student’ personal motivation through each school year.
Trimesters have many advantages, one of the main advantages being, flexibility(Miller). With trimesters students have more room in their schedules. Because of this, students can take more classes they normally wouldn't be able to take with semesters. It also gives them chances to take more elective classes rather than mostly required classes.

By taking first-semester exams sooner, I feel that those scores would not turn out high. Students would be to anxious to get out for winter break that they would not focus on test. Another disadvantage that deals with those tests is that they will not get as much time to prepare for them like the tests in the second-semester. It will also be hotter in class rooms during the first-semester, so this will allow most students to not be able to concentrate; this would be more of the case in elementary schools. The biggest disadvantage I see is with reading and math. Most students struggle with these two subjects, and by giving them less time to practice they will not be able to succeed in it the way they should. Without these two skills being better than average, how does the school district expect that test scores will be better. Schools should focus more on reading and math, especially in elementary schools, because these are the foundations they need in order to move out of high-school, and on to further…

Over all public schools, there are only 4% that operate on a year round calendar. In that 4% there are 2 million students learning under a year round basis. Besides, year round schedules mitigate education loss from the previous school year. It also tarnishes the tradition of summer break, according to “Should You Give Up Summer Vacation?” by Laura Kelsey. Evidently the year round calendar is a prime solution to alter failing grades and help struggling students catch up. For instance, some students are overwhelmed with work and drama that occurs in school. With that in mind, year round schedules have more spread out recesses eradicating the overwhelming school environment. Simultaneously, year round calendars lessen memory loss between long breaks. Thus helping students retain and understand their curriculum. Lastly, studies show that American students are less proficient in academic topics.…

Year-round school is a new concept that school districts around the country are starting to adapt. These new schedules include periodic breaks throughout the year rather than a large summer break like the traditional school schedules. Administrations are starting to consider this new type of curriculum because they believe the breaks will boost energy and motivation in school as well as improve test scores. Critics of the new schedule often argue that attending school year round will wear students out and take away the vast opportunities offered by the summer break. A year-round curriculum does not have a beneficial effect on student and teacher performance.…

Frequent breaks in the school year allow students and teachers to recharge themselves, be more active in class, and have higher academic achievement. Students and teachers can get tired if they have ongoing class for ten months without a break big enough to recharge. Some of the illnesses that people could have fought off when they were fully rested could make them sick and make more people absent (edweek.org). Absences due to illnesses can be sustained by year round school because of the time to recharge and can raise their academic achievement by having more time in class than when they would usually be sick. Although summer vacation may be fun, having frequent breaks in the school year can help students retain their knowledge and have higher academic achievement (nea.org). Retaining knowledge because of shorter summer breaks…

One of the major benefits of year-round school is that it aids students in a way that they can increase their overall grade. Students are less likely to forget what they have previously learned in school due to the lack of large breaks in the school year. Most importantly, there is more time. More time for school means more time can be devoted to each unit or section of material a teacher is covering. Less pressure to learn information in two weeks or even a month can help students apply their new knowledge to the long-term memory and gives more time for student to comprehend ideas in a more complex manor.…

Would a year-round school schedule improve students’ academic performance? There are many debates on whether schools should extend their educational calendar to a full year. While year-round school schedules have their share of benefits, there are also negative outcomes. People often claim the more the better, but what really matters is the quality, not quantity, of education. Year-round schooling should not be organized because students may develop health issues, wouldn’t be prepared for college, and students may miss out on other opportunities during the summer.…

Have you ever considered switching to year round schooling? Here are some reasons not to switch, the summer time is packed and expensive, it’s harder for students and teachers, and finally there is a greater possibility for brain drain. In the article “Top 10 Reasons Why Year Round School is a Good Idea,” it states that by having one big vacation block, travel is more expensive. No matter the amount of time you get for summer you will still wind up spending more because both of the summer breaks, for year round and regular schooling, are during the summer months which are when airlines raise their prices. Also, by having less time off there is less time to play sports and hangout with family which is what most kids, like myself, look forward too. Another statement from the article said that breaks that are frequent are good for both students and teachers. With more frequent breaks the teachers will have to cram in all the information before each break. Students look forward to days off of school, but if breaks are more frequent, then they won’t get as excited because the breaks happen so…
