True Colours By Lucy Lemay Cellucci: Summary
The book that I am reading is called True Colours, by Lucy Lemay Cellucci who is a great author. So far along the book the book I find that the plot of the book is developing well and that the all the details are going being stated clearly and entertainingly. I find that this book is an easy read since there are not many words that I do not understand and that I understand the main theme of the book in the first half. The main theme of the book is animal curtly or animal abusement in general and the book also touches on how animals are being abused in third world countries like India, China, Pakistan, and many others as well. This book tells the reader how in Canada many children care about animals and are willing to help find a way to keep …show more content…
The main character Zoe does not have the confidence to try new things or talk to new people. When Zoe talks to new people she would say something like this “uh-oh, I said in distressed whisper” (132). Low confidence would be a great topic since in some point in time we all have a drop in our confidence in doing something. Low confidence can be resolved by animal therapy which has been used in this novel. When Zoe was feeling low her mother broth her an animal she loves and Zoe knew it right away “you’re bringing the chimps?” (139) after the visit of these animals, Zoe was smiling as she had never smiled. Animal therapy can help many but also harm some. In this story, animals are given respect but somethings they are forgotten about as well. Some characters do not care about animals and do not care even a little bit about an animal like Alex, hew would normally go home and “watch TV, eating junk food” also he would make animals run away from him if they got too close. There are many topics but these three stood out to …show more content…
To start off I would ask the obvious question like what or who inspired you to write such an amazing book? That would be my first question that I ask her since I would like to know if any of these things have happened to her in a lifetime in some shape or form. This book is many events in this book seem to me that can happen to anyone like when Zoe the antagonist said, “someone to count on” (161) I feel like she was not only referring to a character in her book but someone in her life as well. I would also ask her how long did it take you to write this book? I would ask her that since she has a family of her two young children and her husband to take care of as well. I would ask her if she had support to write this book since it was published back in 2010 when it was an equality based society. My final question to her would be that of she could be one character who would she want to be? I feel as if that these questions would have thought for a little

In the article How It feels to Be Colored Me, Zora Hurston describes her experiences being colored. She lived in a prominently colored town in Florida up until she was thirteen and she lived a great life. Everyone knew her; she was “their” Zora. Then, her mother passed away and Hurston was shipped off to boarding school. This, she said was the first time she became colored. Now, when I first read this article I wondered how she could remember being born. Then, I realized that what she really meant was that when she left home, she was no longer Zora. To everyone she was just a little black girl.…

    Shades Of White Summary

Shades of White is an ethnographic study of two high schools. One, "Valley Groves High School," was suburban, and the "whitest" high school in the region. Here the student body was comprised of non-Hispanic whites (83 percent), Hispanics (7 percent), Asians (5 percent), Filipinos (2 percent), and African Americans (2 percent). The other, "Clavey High," was metropolitan and more thoroughly multiracial--African American (54 percent), Asian American (23 percent), white (12 percent), Hispanic (8 percent), Filipino (2 percent), Pacific Islander (1 percent), and Native American (1 percent). Perry examines the making and living of whiteness in school life, asking about its formation through white students' interactions with one another and with peers of color. In this book the schoolyard is as important as are school curriculum, faculty, and administrators. Meanwhile, the familial and larger social contexts from which students arrive to complete each school day are deemed not so much stable, preexisting settings, as sites in relation to which selves and others must be reconceived and remade.…

There are many traits which I have that co-respond with the blue card. Sympathetic is a key trait in which I use when describing myself to others. When I watch movies, I put myself into various characters positions and I tend to cry if they are put in or dealing with stressful situations. I find myself doing this not only with fictional characters, but with my friends as well. Another trait from the blue card in which I associate myself with is enthusiasm . I tend to become very excited about various events. I believe that compassion walks hand in hand with sympathy therefor I believe I am compassionate as well. As I mentioned, I cry when my friends or fictional characters are put in stressful situations. In addition to crying, I try my best to help or pretend to help with the situation. I give my best advice and give them an example of how I felt in a similar situation and how it turned out. I like to believe it helps them in one way or another. . I enjoy talking about my past experiences, my life journey, and anything in between. There are many more traits from the blue card that I associate myself with, however these 4 are the words I found to be the most obvious.…

It was a day like every other in the busy city of Seattle. There were rain clouds above that made it gloomy. It looked like the perfect scene for a horror movie. Annabel "Red" Jackson was sitting in her room on this day listening to Stressed out by Twenty one pilots. The reason they call her "Red" is because she always has a red hoodie with a small heart right above her heart that she got from her grandmother on. No matter what the day is like. It could be one hundred degrees out and she would still have that red hoodie on. "Red?" Called her mother. "What mom?" She replied. "Your grandmother is sick and I need you to take her some soup to help her feel better." Said her mother. "It is raining out though. I don't want to get wet." Red replied to her mother.…

To first engage in the concept of empathy, each of these texts use the animal as a central motif to explore the human psyche and society. In "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" caring for an animal is the only way one can display their true humanity. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, after the chaos of "World War Terminus" most animals have become extinct, with only a few remaining and bought by the affluent. As Toth writes although it is not explicitly mentioned, it can be logically assumed that humans…

Opening: Today, I would like to discuss some of the global issues surrounding animal welfare, relayed from digital news sources. Across the world, animals are being subjected to mistreatment, abuse, and exploitation for human gain. It is a heart-wrenching topic, but it is one that needs attention in order to change. The majority of us have worn wool, leather, and fur and eaten meat. However, we don’t usually consider the impact of these actions on our bodies, the environment, and the animals involved. This would mean recognizing the activities that are being propagated across the world, and using this awareness to make ethical choices and to promote proper treatment.…
