In response, NATO was formed and Truman gave word to start work on a more powerful bomb called the hydrogen bomb, which would hopefully keep their firepower and arms at more of an advantage to stay on top of the Soviet Union. Soviet China and North Korea then started racing to create more powerful weapons, which could have created worldwide havoc. Eventually, North Korea attempted to force South Korea into a communist state, starting the Korean War. Harry S. Truman had to make some of the most difficult choices that any president has ever had to make. He was president from April 12, 1945 to January 20, 1953, he took over just before World War 2 ended, went through the Korean war, and went through part of the Cold war. When Truman took office Franklin D. Roosevelt died about three months after and close to the same time he had to make the choice of dropping the atomic bombs on Japan to end the war. Which to date are the only atomic bombs used in war. Truman had one of the hardest presidencies out of all of them because of all the decisions he had to make that have not been topped.…

This doesn’t change the millions of American soldiers’ lives he saved when he made that decision. The dropping of the bomb ended the war in a dead halt and saved more lives than it ruined. This was a significant point in history where everything changed and a new path was paved for a new era of firepower that had never been dreamed of before. The reality was that nobody thought that someone was going to drop the atomic bomb but Truman proved them wrong and showed that when America had to get business done that he would take the necessary actions. One thing Truman did accomplish that was a good thing, there has not been atomic bomb dropped since that day on August 9, 1945 because the world seen the destruction and chaos that the atomic bomb carried with…

A President’s Role During the Second World War, about 350,000 Americans died compared to the 7 million Russians that were sacrificed. By focusing on the negative aspects of the atomic bomb dropping, one may overlook the fact that a president’s first priority is to protect and secure the welfare of his/her people and Truman did just that by dropping the bomb. Chief Executive Harry S. Truman fully knew that his decision to drop the atomic bomb would cause damage beyond imagination, but he had no other choice because the Japanese were reluctant and were highly unlikely to surrender. Even with the sea blockade enforced by the United States, the Japanese displayed little to no sign of giving up. President Truman’s decision to drop the atomic…

Stalin wanted to test America’s commitment to their policies of containment so when they responded it showed that America was willing to continue stopping communism even 4 years after World War 2. When the United States waded into the muddy waters of battle they had one goal, contain communism and uphold the democratic state which was South Korea; and they did. The war shows again commitment to the cause and doing what is needed in order to fight off the USSR’s attempts to expand communist reign. Furthermore, the justifying quality of war was the end result. After the war ended, South Korea’s government system of democracy lived. For the U.S this was an embodiment of containment and the future seemingly boded in the side of the North Atlantic Treaty…
