“Tuesdays with Morrie”

My three favourite Morris’s aphorisms would be, “The culture we have does not make people feel good about themselves. And you have to be strong enough to say if the culture doesn’t work, don’t buy it”, “There is no foundation, no secure ground, upon which people may stand today if it isn’t the family”, and “As long as we can love each other, and remember the feeling of love we had, we can die without ever really going away. All the love you created is still there. All the memories are still there. You live on-in the hearts of everyone you have touched and nurtured while you were here”. These life lessons have great significance to my own life, a little different in reference, but still the same in reality. Love from family and true friends will always be with me, no matter what happens in my life.
In the statement, “The culture we have does not make people feel good about themselves. And you have to be strong enough to say if the culture doesn’t work, don’t buy it”, Morrie notices from his window that people would go about their day not caring what happens or giving simply gestures to one another. People never bother to acknowledge each other; they make promises that they have no intention of keeping. Just like my own experience in high school, where it was suggested that if I changed then I would be able to take courses that would benefit me in the future and that never happened. I would do what was asked of me and look forward to these courses and they would be eliminated from my schedule without even a simple consultation with me saying that it was not going to happen, I would always find out after the fact instead of when it was happening. This shows that they didn’t respect me enough to even acknowledge that I had changed; I was never rewarded with any incentive to come to school. I was made to feel that I would not accomplish anything in my life and that my life was worthless as far as some people were concerned.
“There is no foundation, no secure ground, upon which people may stand today if it isn’t the family”, when Morrie was sick he only had the nurses that cared for him and his former student Mitch who contacted him and would visit him on Tuesday where Morrie would continue his wisdom about life and people. The one thing that is very apparent in my life is that my family and my good friends will always be there for me, in times of despair and times of joy. They have never let me down and never made me feel alone. There is always someone there to lend a hand or just listen to all the crap that takes place in my life.

Mitch and Morrie were talking about life and death, Mitch realizes that death ends a life and not the relationship. Morrie instructs Mitch to keep talking to him after his death. Just because someone dies does not mean that the feeling you have for them die, they are still always in our hearts and souls. My family and friends will always be a part of my life, no matter whether they are sitting beside me or have passed on. They have given me so much support and understanding that has helped me through my life to this day and I know they will be there in the future either way.
In conclusion, love, family and friends will stand by me through what life has to offer and what I will have to endure in the present and future. As they grow older as the days go by I know that I will always have them in my heart and soul, remembering their wisdom and guidance, but most of all their support with everything that has been quite a challenge to me and my future.
