Two Spanish Airports, Barcelona (BCN) And Madrid Case Study
In this thesis we discuss 2 Spanish airports, Barcelona (BCN) and Madrid (MAD). Both are managed by the same airport operator; AENA. But they both have their particular characteristics, or, as already mentioned before, ‘every airport is unique’.
The management of the Spanish airports is carried out by AENA (Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea). Aena was till February 2015 100% owned by the Spanish government, as part of the Ministry of Development (Ministerio de Fomento). The main goal of Aena is the management of the civil airports and air navigation and it has been allowed to develop related activities in order to achieve profitability. Aena manages 43 airports including the major international airports of Madrid Barajas, Palma de Mallorca

The Delta plan, which was also marketed under the name ‘The Euro-gate’, was an agreement for cooperation in the infrastructure and natural environment of the Llobregat River Delta. Although it is called a plan it is more a cooperation agreement that has to open a political opportunity window allowing the realization of all the strategic infrastructures planned by different administrations in the delta area. The goal of this Delta Plan is to develop and transfer the Llobregat Delta as the major logistic centre in Southern Europe, and this by taking advantage of the synergies that are created by the Airport and the Port, as well as by the train and road networks in order to consolidate the Barcelona Metropolitan Region as the most important centre in the Mediterranean Axis (Suau Sánchez & Pallares-Barbera,

To know this in depth, BOLE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT of Addis Ababa, at the capital city of Ethiopia has been chosen. It is an existing hub in African continent which could emerge as the dominant player in the African Aviation market. Bole international airport was ranked 7th in the best airports award of SKYTRAX in 2012 .It is one of the top busiest airports in Africa which showed a passenger increase of 25% in 2011(we fly high, 2011). In this case study, the geographical location and demography is explored. Traffic and GDP growth influences the airport operations in a positive way. Then the infrastructure, facilities provided in the airport is studied in detail to get a wide knowledge about the airport operations of bole international airport.
