A diabetes epidemic is underway. The worldwide increasing rate of obesity has imposed its threat on millions of people. Poor lifestyle choices and a lack of physical exercise will eventually result in a worldwide epidemic.
Type 2 diabetes is a lifestyle disease that millions of people worldwide suffer from. Type 2 diabetics are insulin resistant and generally suffer from obesity, hypertension and other serious illnesses. This disease can however be controlled and prevented with time and effort, a healthy eating and active lifestyle is very important.

Eating a balanced diet and making informed eating decision will decrease the risk and prevent the onset of the disease. It is vital that a healthy, active lifestyle is promoted and encouraged.

However it is very important that low glycemic carbohydrates are consumed, carbohydrates that have a low GI index and are high in fiber help prevent hyperglycemia by stabilizing blood glucose levels.
