Ufo In Kushiro Summary
Haruki’s story “UFO in Kushiro” focuses on an electronic salesman by the name of Komura. Kumora is devastated when he returns home to find that his wife had left him and sent and asked him to sign divorce papers. Newly divorced, Komura has asked his boss for a week of paid vacation time, which he was granted. He was later asked by a colleague to deliver a special package during his time off from work. Three passages from the story explain how people witness the tragedies and either decide to confront the issue with caution or experience the trauma and try to avoid the issue. Each of the passages within the passage explain a tragedy and how the people involved experience trauma and try to avoid the issue. The message this story is trying to …show more content…
The author explained how Komura’s wife had not been affected directly by the tragedy when he wrote “Komura’s wife came from way up north in Yamagata and, as far as he knew she had no friends or relatives who could have been hurt in Kobe” This particular part of the story gave implied that Komura’s wife had been feeling something personal about the tragedy, although she has not direct attachment to the issue. Each day for five days, she would sit and gaze at the television without movement. On the sixth day, Komura walked in to find that she had disappeared. She left a note basically explaining to Komura how he had not been there for her and how she didn’t want to be with him anymore. She had went back to Yamagata with her family. She expresses how she feels about her husband had not been there to comfort her in her letter when she writes: “The problem is that you never give me anything. Or, to put it more precisely, you have nothing inside that you can give me.” Komura’s wife had done something that people commonly do when they experience trauma, try to leave the situation and find someone who can comfort them through this traumatic
