There are three main types of childcare settings; these are voluntary, statutory and private. Private settings are those which are set up to make the owner a profit. A few examples of these are private day nurseries, childminders, nannies and work place nurseries. The setting I am focusing on is a private day nursery. The nursery opened 1997 and operates from a private home. It is open 49 weeks of the year, opening from 9-6 five days a week. The setting is able to have 24 children on site at one time aged between one and five. The setting ensures that all children are warmly welcomed and ensure a safe and stimulating environment. On their website they say their aim is to promote a “home from home atmosphere”. The staff meets the children’s care and learning needs. This is done by carefully planning activities to meet all children’s needs and abilities. It is important that the staff build a good bond with the children’s parents/ carers as this builds up the trust between them. This is done by the setting having a good communication between the parents and the setting; they use daily diary sheets, home link books, parent’s evenings and eating plans to ensure that each child’s needs are met.
Statutory settings are those which are government funded. A few examples of these are Sure Start, breakfast and after school clubs.
The one i am going to be focused on is Sure Start. The central centre opened in 2006, it runs mainly from one site but has 2 smaller sites which it also operates from. Local to me there are three Sure Start centres. During a Sure Start presentation the presenter said that the Sure Start centres cover the 30% most deprived areas in the country. Most centres are open form Monday to Saturday for varying times between 9:00 am till 7:30 pm.
Voluntary settings are settings like pre-schools and play groups. The setting i am focusing on opened in 1971. Its opens from 9:15-12:20pm it is
