Outcome 1
1.1. Planning your workload can help time management and can help give you a clearer understanding of what you need to do to complete tasks. Sensible planning shows you what work needs to be done in the day, and allows you to manage your time effectively to meet objectives and deadlines. You can also make sure that you have access to any resources you require and if any people working with you are available. All this makes working less stressful and means you can be more efficient and organised, and complete a task successfully and on time. If you have a set plan of your workload, it means your manager and other colleagues can see what you’re working on, and monitor your performance.
1.2. It is important to negotiate realistic targets at work and to set deadlines and goals in relation to the task at hand. The main benefit of negotiating realistic targets for work is to make sure work gets completed on time and that you are always focusing on the outcome. You can therefore plan your time better. It would also cause stress for you and your colleagues.
The first step is to talk to your line manager to establish what the task is, and what the outcomes need to be. You can then discuss how this can be achieved, and possibly give yourself checkpoints to review progress to make sure you are on your way to your target. It is also important to be honest, and renegotiate a target if you feel you cannot achieve it in the time or way set.
1.3. Lists are a very good way of prioritising targets and showing timescales. I use the tasks option in Microsoft Outlook to keep track of what needs to done, and when the work is due. I can also set priorities and reminders to ensure important work gets done.
I also set reminders on my calendar to
