Outcome 1: Understand how IT can support personal development.
Understand how IT tools and resources can support own learning and development.
There are many IT tools available that can assist learning. Within my place of employment we have Target Tracker software to manage and track pupil progress and learning, subject specific software such as Smart Learning and a fully implemented Virtual Learning Environment for the entire school.
The Target tracker software enables the teaching staff to monitor and manage individual pupil’s personal targets and levels of comprehension. Target Tracker improves the productivity of the teaching staff as they can actively monitor pupil improvement throughout their class room and focus on improving their learning experience. This software also lets them compare their progress to the national average to make sure that the teacher themselves is on track. This greatly improves the effectiveness of the pupil’s development.
The Smart Learning software is a fully comprehensive IT curriculum in a single application. The Smart Learning software contains lessons appropriate to the age of the student, fully comprehensive lessons, explanations, help, tasks and challenges for students to undertake in their ICT lessons. Using smart learning teachers can monitor individual pupil progress through the program, noting where they are struggling and where they are excelling. This allows teachers to respond to the pupils specific IT based needs effectively. This improves the development of the pupils.
The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) is a web based software application that allows staff to set work to pupils, communicate, share resources and monitor the targets and homework returned by the pupils. This is slowly replacing paper based homework as all homework submitted now needs to be sent through the VLE. This improves learning as the teachers can directly communicate with the pupils across the VLE, offer support and track the
