Topic: Types of tissues Date: 09/06/2015
Objectives :
Exploring four types of tissues. and Comparing four types of tissues :
Nervous,
Connective
Epithelial,
and muscular tissues.
From Tissues to organs
Cells combine to form tissues and tissues combine to form organs.
Cells combine to form four primary tissues:
- Epithelial tissue
- Connective tissue
- Muscle tissue
- Nerve tissue
BACKGROUND:A
tissue is a group of cells that have a similar shape and function. Different types of tissues can be found in different organs. In humans, there are four basic types of tissue: epithelial, connective, muscular, and nervous tissue. There may be various subtissues within each of the primary tissues. Activity:
In pairs discuss the types of tissues found in human body
What idea do you develop of their functions in body?
Epithelial Tissue
Epithelial tissue covers the body surface and forms the lining for most internal cavities.
There are two kinds of epithelial tissues:
Covering and lining epithelium covers or lines almost all of your internal and external body surfaces; for example, the outermost layer of your skin and other organs, and the internal surface lining of your lymph vessels and digestive tract.
Glandular epithelium secretes hormones or other products such as stomach acid, sweat, saliva, and milk.
Function and shapes of epithelial tissue:
The major function of epithelial tissue includes protection, secretion, absorption, and filtration. The skin is an organ made up of epithelial tissue which protects the body from dirt, dust, bacteria and other microbes that may be harmful. Cells of the epithelial tissue have different shapes. Cells can be:
-thin
-flat
-cubic
elongated.
Functions of Epithelial tissues: I. EPITHELIUM
Functions (jobs):
1) It protects us from the outside world – skin. 2) Absorbs – stomach and intestinal lining
(gut)
3) Filters – the kidney
4) Secretes –
