I chose to do my final for the Criminal Justice academy on the United States Coast Guard. The reason I chose that topic is because it has always interested me and I plan to hopefully pursue a career in that field. My opinion on the Coast Guard is that it is the best branch of the military and there is no other like them and without the Coast Guard, the United States would not be the way it is today. To support my statement I’m going to talk about what they are, when they got started, what their purpose is, and what makes them different and stand out from all the other branches in the United States army. The United States Coast Guard was founded in 1790. They have been around for over 200 years. They are one of the five armed forces of the United States military that are trained to carry a fire arm. They have to go through a rigorous training regiment in into to be able to carry a weapon. They are also the only the only military organization in the United Sates that are within Homeland Security. This means they not only handle danger in other nations like other branches in the army, but also domestic situations within the United States. The Coast Guard has safeguarded the United States maritime interests and environments around the world. They handle all water related problems around the United States. So they pretty much cover and secure the boundary of the United States. The Coast Guard is able to adapt to any terrain or problem that is placed in front of them. They must be very responsive and are on the call constantly. No other branch in the army can do what the Coast Guard does and there is still much more they do. The Coast Guard not only watches over the coast lines, but they also provide a persistent presence along rivers, ports, littoral regions, and high seas.
