Unsafe Driving

Did you know about 6,000 deaths and a half of a million injuries are caused by distracted drivers every year? Also about 5,454 people were killed because of the use of a cell phone. The use of cell phone can cause reckless driving due to distractions, disruptive surrounding, and could increase the likelihood of an accident. There are many distractions while driving on the road, but the most dangerous distraction is talking on the phone with one hand on the wheel. This is why so many people get in fatal accidents. One of the only way to stop this from happening is to give people that do this a ticket. When people hear that they could get a ticket from a police for talking on the phone. They start getting concerned about how much the ticket would cost them, and all the time that it would take away from them going to the classes they have to take when a ticket is given. When you are on the phone, many times a person can have the phone on speakerphone or by their ear. This causes disruptive surrounding, which is another reason cellphones cause reckless driving. It could be dangerous when a person has their phone on too loud and cannot hear a siren of an ambulance or police. This can cause many disasters such as a car crash since the car doesn’t stop or pull over to a lane real quick when the ambulance is driving way faster than a car’s normal speed. This can also create big traffic such as being unable to hear other cars honking at you when you are not driving correctly or doing something wrong. There is a way higher chance that you can cause or be in an accident when on the phone while driving. According to Edgar Snyder and Associates talking on the call phone causes 25% of car accident fatalities. This should prove to you that while driving you should always be fully focused on your surrounding and where you are going. Not only when you have an accident you hurt yourself but it is highly likely to hurt another person. Even though some

Using a cell phone while driving can cause the driver to take their eye off the road and cause them to think about what’s going on with their cell phone. When a phone call comes through on the driver’s cell phone, this distracts them from paying attention to the road. This is a major cause of accidents and deaths on the road. This also is putting drivers life in danger. While drivers may think they can handle talking on the phone they tend to miss visual and audio clues to avoid crashes. For example, there could be a crash on the highway. Drivers pick up their cell phone to call spouse or a friend to inform them of the trouble car crash. In the split second you looked down to dial the number you didn’t see the sign that said “right lane closed.” You then look up and realize that you are now in the right lane were the accident occurred. Before you could slow down or even stop you run into the back of a car that was just in an accident. Now because you picked up your cell phone instead of consternating on the road you put yourself in a situation you did not have to be in. This is just a few reasons why concentration on the road is so critical to prevent accidents.…

According to the New York Times, using a phone while operating a vehicle puts drivers at four times the risk of crashing as other drivers. The likelihood that the crash would happen is the same as someone with a .08 percent blood alcohol level (where drivers are considered to be intoxicated) (Richtel 1). A 2003 Harvard study estimated that 330,000 car accidents occurred in the United States with moderate and severe injuries among the victims as a result of cell phone use. Another 2,600 cell phone related accidents resulted in a death (Richtel 1). The problem is that most drivers over estimate their ability to multi-task. Their consciousness is quickly divided as soon as their attention is focused on things other than the road.…
