Us/101 Final Paper
Through the last nine weeks this class and my experiences have taught me so much about how to prepare myself for my future not only in my college courses but in my career path too. I started this path not really knowing what to expect but in desperate need for a change in my life. In all reality I didn’t realize how unprepared I actually was. This course imp articular taught me so much! I learned how to set goals for myself so that I could stay motivated and be able to visually see my completion of each goal. You separate your goals into short term and long term so that you can effectively schedule your tasks at hand in the correct order to accomplish all of your goals. When I realized that I had a fear of failing I was also directed in this course to learn how to overcome procrastination. It is easy to be motivated in this learning environment by reading the stories and opinions of the other students here. The more motivated you are the less you procrastinate! Managing my time was definitely one of the hugest struggles for me through this experience so I was thankful that this topic was covered so thoroughly in the past weeks. I actually am starting to enjoy making the calendar for each week that organizes the lives of my daughter and I. Another lesson that goes hand in hand with time management is creating an effective learning and study environment. It’s so important to be able to get the absolute most out of every minute of your time. To do this I’ve found that when studying you need to be able to focus yourself on nothing other than your schoolwork and assignments on hand. With all of the things I have learned by my experiences in the past few weeks I feel more confident about my pursuit in my career goals. I feel this has set me up to succeed. I have been able to learn how to think outside the box and be independent in my decision making process.
There are so many values to earning your degree. When researching I have found that there is a dramatic

For those students that have issues with time management the (SEC) can introduce time management courses. The (SEC) can also assign a second or third year student that can help the first year student on developing a time management plan. This could really help the first year student because the third and second year students would have already gone through the transition stage and would be able to give the first year student some good tips on how to manage time…

    1. Make to do lists. This is something that I already do to a degree in my personal life, but not as often as I should. I plan on implementing this to help me achieve my educational goals. Lists help organize things by importance and act as a reminder to finish tasks I might leave behind. Personally when I complete tasks on my lists I feel a sense of accomplishment and have more desire to tackle some of the harder tasks on my list. I will begin to implement this time management skill with this class, and carry it over to block 2 through Gateway Community College.…

The four vital areas that I need to improve in order to become more efficient in managing my time as a college student would include prioritizing, resolving issues, time management and procrastination. As a single working mother I find it hard to prioritize what's really important which always brings a sense of panic. Personally as a working parent I always feel overwhelmed from the many obligations that go along with raising young children. Therefore it's very easy to find myself with multiple projects with fast approaching deadlines. Instead of always over scheduling myself I must schedule unscheduled time to allow personal time to reenergize my mind and body. I also have to choose what's really important…

This classes teaches you how to be successful in college and ways to do that. I've learned so many strategies from the On Course textbook. I was lacking in motivation, so I tried the formula for motivation and found my motivation level to be lower than I would like it to be. My value on my education was a 5. My expectation on my education to be a 5. And my motivation was a 25 which was very low. To improve my score and try to make it increase I set goals using DAPPS which is dating my goals, making them achievable, positive and personal, and specific. I also created my life plan. The life plan made me realize my dreams as a student and what my short term goals were. Setting goals using DAPPS really encouraged me and made me want to accomplish them. Dating my goals made it feel like a challenge and that made me want to go for it more. Achievable made me think that I can do this and that there's no way that I can't. A positive goal was easy for me to think of. Lastley, being specific made me visualize what the outcome of my goal will look like. Using the DAPPS made my motivation…

Time and stress management reflecting on it showed me how important it is. Having had a child half way through this course I learned fast that I needed to manage my time differently in order to succeed as not only a mother but as a student. The stress became a lot fast and I learned very quickly that if the baby is asleep and I can’t sleep to do my school work. Time did get away from me on participation, so I had to face this problem head on. Now seeing how others dealt with their stress and time helped to give me ideas on how to work with mine.…

During this class I have made two self- discoveries that will positively impact my career goals. Those self- discoveries has helped to mold, and shape me into a student that I have never thought I would be. Those discoveries were that I am an organized learner, because I made a study plan to help me determine when, and how I would study. Being that I have five children, I had to make sure that I had set a schedule so that my course work including study time would not affect my family time and take away from spending time with my children and fiance`. Since these are the competing priorities in my life right now learning to obtain trust and consistency in the home while I have been attending school has also improved because not only do I see my success so does my children and fiancé. Knowing that I had that support also has made it possible to do my best in school, setting the pace for them to do the same in school also, whether it be good grades, sports, etc. I know that they will continue to be good at what they do and have proven to do so time after time.…
