A crucial amount of changes enter one's life when stepping into a higher level institution. One has more independence and responsibility of one's own actions and decisions. In order to pay all the expenses, students get jobs. Consequently, time becomes an obstacle when one has to juggle course work as well as his or her job. A few strategies that help deal with this issue include forming a personal schedule and setting reminders, planning ahead and keeping journals, and exercise.

I decided to attend college for a reason. Therefore, I should make every single day count. At the end of the day, I note down the accomplishments of my day in a diary and schedule my plans for the following day. Everyday is a new day. With a busy life, it's essential to plan ahead and recognize the small steps that one has to take in order to get where one desires to be. A schedule for every single day of the week may sound tedious, but it only take thirty minutes out of one's day. One can portion out the time for sleeping, eating, working, and enjoying. Not every second of the day has to be spent on homework or sleep. By maintaining a journal, one can keep track of small achievements and be a bit satisfied.

Personally, my favorite strategy, the one that works like a charm for me, is exercise. A thirty minute date with a treadmill at my local gym has me high on adrenaline and low on stressing about my college work. During that time, I'm able to take a break from everyt task and assignment that's haunting me. To be honest, many of my friends also admit that they'd rather sweat about calories than college projects. Not only do workouts help people take a break but also they allow us to maintain a healthy body routine. A healthy body means less stress. Less stress means more work can be

This experience allowed me to realize exactly which skills I possess and which I am the best at expressing, teaching me a lot about myself but also about what I would like to improve on. This is where the “unwritten curriculum” of university becomes extremely important, as it has already allowed me to build on many skills which I had struggled with previously; skills such as time-management, focus, independence and abstract thinking. All qualities which seem relatively simple, yet without constant practice are not as easily remembered. Looking at time-management; “the total TMB [time management behaviour] was found to be significantly correlated with role ambiguity, somatic tension, job and life satisfaction, self-related performance and GPA.”1 This finding, although seems relatively straight forward allows for students such as myself to understand that the skill of time-management has many positive effects in ones life; academically and…

There is no doubt that you mean well and all you want for us students is to succeed and do well in life, and there is also no doubt you enjoy wasting students’ time. Seven hours feels like an eternity and it is not really necessary. Five hours and a half hours is plenty. One hour for Language arts, one hour for science, one hour math, one hour for History and thirty minutes for lunch. I enjoy sleeping. It releases tension and stress that you put on me for the seven hours prior to that moment. But, what I don’t enjoy is the sound of my alarm. It just reminds me that I have to go and listen to how earth is made of rock, how Pi is an irrational number, why George Washington was our president and where periods go and don’t go. I mean don’t get me wrong I love learning new things and I think it is important to know certain things but seriously seven hours? How is that helping anything? My alarm is just part of the problem. You’re the real problem. Oh, how I would love to hit snooze on my alarm, but if I miss a day or a few the person that takes care of me and is actually essential to my life might have to attend Court.…

I remember the day well. I was just finished with school for the year and sitting on the front step, the top half of me laying back on the porch, just staring. I was thinking about the small house my mother worked so hard for us to get and keep. We lived in row housing just outside Juneau Alaska. All of the houses were small and I always thought to myself, “Is this the life I am destined for?” My mind wondered as I looked up at the clouds and squinted because of the sun.…
